Global Patient Feedback for Hydrocodone ( Post a comment )
Question/Comment:
I have been using hydrocodone se 7.5/750mg for 3 and 1/2 yrs. now for nerve damage to my siatic <----spelling? nerve, that starts in your lower back & goes all the way to your feet. The Watson Rx tablet is not as effective as the Mallinkroft tablet to ease my pain. I have continued to fill my subscription at the pharmacy that carries the Mallinkroft brand. And OH YES, it IS an addictive medicine if you are taking more than has been subscribed by the doctor or than is needed to ease your pain! And please don't say ..."but how much do I need to ease my pain?" Figure it out...you're the one in pain!! Stay Safe & Healthy everyone!! ;^)

I noticed you said If you are taking more then the doctor prescribes to you. Then the medication is addicting. Well when I first started taking this medication. It was prescribed every 3 - 4 hours 1 or 2 tablets. Well I always waited for about six for me and I kept doing that for about six months and one day I did not take any and I noticed I felt like I was coming down with something and did not feel well at all. Well guess what. I found out I was addicted. It evens says on the packet information. If you take this medication for more then 3 weeks will it cause dependencies. So how are you not addicted? Please tell me. Thanks.

I certainly do. A person really needs to be cautious with this drug if they have had drug addictions in the past. It is highly addictive. I know various individuals that have lost everything they own from this particular drug. I've seen marriages that have ended after 25 years because of this drug. If I didn't have to have pain relief I wouldn't even concider this drug. You must be the master over it. However I dislike taking any medications so much I donot have a problem with it. I take it as needed. I would also advice an individual if the Doctor says take 6 tablets a day that doesn't mean that you must. You can achieve pain relief with less at times. You must use at your own discretion. The less you take the better. Withdraw symptoms set in after just taking and stopping this drug after only a week. Withdraw is a nightmare from this drug. Some of us with chronic pain must have pain relief with this drug and it is very good for pain when used properly. I know that I will always have to take this for my chronic pain, but those of you out there that take it for small surgical procedures, such as tooth extraction exc. be very careful and aware that hydrocodone can take your life over and it can strip you of all you have, most of all your dignity. Be cautious, be wise while using this medication and don't use it unless you must.

WOW!!! That is severe. Being on this medication for almost 6 years I now know alot of other people who take this medicine for pain and for kicks. I can honestly say the ones who are taking it for pain. Well yes they are addicted because it has been over the three weeks. But they still work and manage their lives okay. No family members have left them nor friends. The family and friends are all understanding of the situration. I mean it is not like they are going out stealing to support their habit. However those who are taking the drug to get high. Well let me just say first off I would never thought of ME doing any type of drugs for a high and it bothers me to see people abusing it like that. Because those of us with chronic pain know how important this medicine is to have for us to relieve our pain and it needs to be handled very responsibly. Any way the ones who are taking it to get high. Yes I see that their lives are in a turmoil. But they are also involve with other drugs in fact they are in search for a high. Me I am just in search for relief of the constant stabbing and aching pain,

I agree with you the female was a little harsh but there is some truth in what she is saying. I have had fibromyalgia since age 20 and always managed it because it was only in my left shoulder and not severe. However three years ago my doctor sent me to a massage therapist who spread the disease. Everyone with fibro should be aware that messing around and pushing on these "hot spots" or knots in your muscles can aggravate and spread them which is what happened to me and I found myself having to quit my own business and go on disability because I could no longer do my activities of daily living without pain from muscle spasms, migraines and burning which are only some of the many side affects of fibro. However I was married for 18 years with two children when my husband left because he could not stand the depression, the fatigue and mood swings from my hydrocodone and valium and the irritation I would have when in pain. Of course when someone says for better or worse, in sickness and health don't always count on them meaning it. I also lost a friend because she flat out told me she didn't want to hear about it if I was in pain and that she didn't believe in fibromyalgia. So yes unfortunately there are people in our lives who have no sympathy for us and it can turn your life totally upside down, I know it did mine.

I posted a comment today relating to "losing family members" etc. This drug can cause the same problems as alcoholics, cocaine addicts, heroin addicts. It IS an opiate based synthetic! My sister has regressed in her once very "educated and proper" personality. She continues to repeat things and events, forgets what she has said, and almost has a chlidlike way about her...it has cost her the lost of her grown children talking to her, her sisters and brothers talking to her, and our stepmother talking to her. I've finally had to block her number, because of the drama and chaios and harmful verbal raging outbursts, then can't remember them or plays them down a few days later as if they didn't happen. This is a very serious issue and I take the med myself, but in a much more controlled way. If you see any changes that affect your mood, job, interaction with family and others on a regular basis, then you are ADDICTED!! Get HELP, PEOPLE!! Don't make excuses or you'll be pushing up daisies way sooner than you would expect to; even from complications such as liver and kidney "rotting".

Question/Comment:
The important thing to remember is to take hydrocodone BEFORE your pain gets unbearable. It doesn't alleviate all pain, just makes it tolerable.

Yes beware it can cause horrible side effects such as abdominal pain and vomititing, feeling like you can not fall asleep and very tired and groggy the next day unable to function properly the day after, also can cause headache, very funny because it is suppost to take pain away.

its funny that you mentioned addominal pain and vomiting, because that is what happens to mevery so often about once a week, I feel totally nauseated, throw up and have severe pain and it takes me all day to get over it. Also, I take it before I go to bed and at least three to four times a week, I am really tired but can't sleep and sometimes wake up with severe headached, like I have been out all nite long on a binger. I just thought something else was wrong since I have had colon cancer and lung cancer, always thinking the worse.

Question/Comment:
I periodically have to take hydrocodone due to a wrist injury last fall. I have recently discovered that generic hydrocodone produced by Watson Pharmaceuticals and I Test are not as effective to contol the pain; however, hydrocodone manufactured by Mallinkroft is very effective. I thought all generic medications were the same. The dosage from all three companies is the same and yet, as I stated, only the ones produced by Mallinkroft work on the pain. Why?
