Question/Comment:

I've recently had a large bruise appear overnight ( a black eyelid). Could this be an interaction with taking paracetamol occasionally and with aspirin as an anti-clotting drug?

Answer/Reply:

I've been taking acetaminophen cod#3 tablets for osteo arthritis plus knee problems . Some times I get headaches apon rising in the morning . Usually only take 1 a day some time 2 on rare occasion. I certainly don't want any problems with my liver. Just can't take the pain.

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

Tylenol and aspirin are not the same medication - each works a little differently. Tylenol is used to treat pain and fever. Aspirin treats pain, fever and inflammation. Because Tylenol works differently than aspirin, it does not have the same side effects or drug interactions as aspirin. Before taking any over-the-counter pain medication, you should always talk your doctor about which one is best for you.

Answer/Reply:

I TAKE TYLENOL BECAUSE ASPIRIN OR ASPIRIN PRODUCTS MAKE
MY STOMACH BLEED, WHAT ELSE IS THERE TO TAKE FOR PAIN

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

Actually, Tylenol is the most commonly used medication for pain among iGuard members. Ultram (tramadol) and narcotic products like hydrocodone, Vicodin (hydrocodone/acetaminophen), oxycodone, and morphine are prescription medications often used for more severe pain. Lyrica (pregabalin) and Neurontin (gabapentin) are FDA approved for treating nerve pain.

Question/Comment:

Been using acetaminophen for years for various aches and pains, specially arthritis. A recent SCAN showed numerous kysts on my kidneys and the first question the radiologist asked was "are you taking Tylenol ?" Wonder if he meant that such finding could be related to a side effect of acetaminophen ! He would not realy give me a straight answer.

Question/Comment:

Which is more effective for fever reduction - tylenol (acetaminophen) or advil (ibuprofen)? And which one is safer?

32 year old Female

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

Different answers for both of them! Acetaminophen is centrally acting and fever reducing, so is good for mild to moderate pains associated with cold and flu. Ibuprofen and other NSAIDs act on inflammation, and are good for joint pain etc. Long term use of acetaminophen can cause liver problems if used in higher doses... whereas NSAIDs like ibuprofen are associated with an increased risk of gastric bleeding. As always, the benefit/risk profile for each product will depend upon the condition you're trying to treat.
