Answer/Reply:
Dylantin was one of the many medications I have been put on for treatment of my epilepsy through the years and by far one of the worst.
It actually caused me to have more seizures rather than control them. I started having hundreds of breakthrough seizures on a daily basis.
I am now on Depakote and Felbatol which has worked for me for years.
I really don't like depakote as it has always caused major depression however it is one of the few things that work and I have learned to just suffer through the side effects in order to be seizure free.

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:
This is unlikely, since the generic versions should be tested to be bioequivalent. That said, there has been increasing controversy regarding side-effects of generic medications that may release their active ingredient at slightly different rates.

Question/Comment:
Can I take Coricidin HBP while taking Dilantin?
68 year old Female
Posted: 2008-01-10 09:16:58
iGuard.org Answer/Reply:
Coricidin HBP is a combination of acetaminophen and chlorpheniramine. Both of these products have potential interactions with Dilantin... Dilantin can increase acetaminophen's potential for liver damage, and reduce its effectiveness. Chlorpheniramine has been occasionally reported to raise dilantin levels. You may be better off talking to your doctor about products that contain a different decongestant or antihistamine (e.g. phenylephrine or loratadine).
