Question/Comment:

My Dr. discussed the more notable side effects per Pfizer's studies (prior to safety alerts). Note I was also taking a low/mod. dose of Effexor XR concurrent w/ Chantix therapy - no personal experience w/ depression, etc. during Chantix therapy. However, determined thru experience that I needed to taper Chantix rather than "cold turkey" stop it after 3 mos. of use. Stopped it due to cost $$$. Used for 3 mos - quit smoking x 4+ mos. Having tried to quit many times previously - cold turket, NRT, Auricular Therapy, etc....this is the longest I have been nicotine-free - so very satisfied w/ my experience w/ Chantix.

Question/Comment:

I've been on chantix for four weeks now and wow what a difference these little pills make. I've have to admit, I haven't taken a pill in four days and I am down to two cigarettes a day. More so out of habit than anything. I only want one when I see my husband with one. Yet I don't really want it.

Question/Comment:

I have heard both good things and bad things about Chantix. I am being urged by my heart doctor and my regular doctor to take Chantix. But with all the heart medication and other medications that I am on I am concerned. With being a CPhT (certified pharmacy tech) I hear a great many different stories about this medication and have some serious concerns with information I heard of hard bad the depression (one of the serious side effects besides the nausea). How safe is this medication to take?

Question/Comment:

I was planning on starting Chantix sometime this week. The problem Im concerned about is the reactions with the other med's Im taking. I also have low iron so I feel from time to time light head or faint. Has had a reaction while on chantix while also taking Xanax or Methadone? Please let me know any info. is helpful! Thank you

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

I'm on all kinds of pain medications and prescriptions for my Crohns disease, but have yet to have any negative reaction. Your doctor should be able to advise you. I often ask my pharmacists for help also.

Answer/Reply:

I quit with Chantix. I still have thoughts occasionally about smoking but nothing that is a mental fight for me, more often being around others smoking irritates my sinuses and makes me sneeze. Also the smell bothers me a lot more than the desire to smoke.
My Doctor told me that I could take the Chantix forever with no problem if I needed to. I also take Xanax, no reactions at all for me.
I have read all the side effects and I do know someone who got so depressed and had really bad nightmares that he had to stop taking it.
I guess everyone's system is different but it has been wonderful for me.
Good luck to you.

Question/Comment:

I started taking it about 3 weeks ago and had very bad reaction to it, the worse thing it really was helping me stop smokinf, but with all the meds I'm on I had a very serious reaction to it., I lost my memory, short term and long. I was stumbling around like i was drunk. I finally called my Dr. and he told me to stop the med immediatly so I did. I still am not back to normal and it scares me, I am scheduled to see my regular dr. and my shrink, so for the language but like I said my memory is gone. I was also told my another dr that she has 2 other patients that are even worse then that. So I recommend that you have all your meds checked with this drug because they have not done enough research with the combo of other drugs especiall depressients. I still am not right. Please be very careful, even though it does help some for not smoking. Thank you , concerned.

Answer/Reply:

I took chantix for less than a month and quit with no problem. I was a smoker for 15yrs. but after stopping I found that I had severe memory problems as well short and long. It was like no one was home. I finally went to a psychiatrist for help. It was like I wasn't even me anymore I thought I was crazy I could no longer function my family of six. I wasn't having crazy thoughts just no thoughts at ALL. I was scared to death. I has been 8months and I can finally say that I think Im as close to getting back to normal as I will ever see. Yes the product works thank heaven but I'm not sure risking my mental health is worth it. 8 months and still a nonsmoker.

Question/Comment:

I started Chantix three weeks ago and I am doing great. You really need to follow the directions and the support line helps out a lot.I do the online support every day and I have good support from family and friends. I have not had any bad problems from Chantix so far. It feels great not to smoke any more, and my health is getting better every day. By the way I smoked for over forty years and have tried many times to stop smoking, this is the first time I feel like I will finally be a non-smoker. Thank you Chantix!!!

54 year old Female

Question/Comment:

I tried taking Chantix for 2 weeks and didn't see any improvement over my urge to smoke. I also had nausea and fatigue and nightmares. I am on prescribed pain killers for chronic pain, and it seemed that when I took Chantix, my painkillers quit working as well. I hope it isn't the Chantix that is causing this. Does anyone else have this problem? I quit taking it and realized I wasn't taking it correctly, for example not taking it after eating and not drinking a full glass of water. So I am going to give it another try and this time I will not quit taking it until I succede. My daughter wont even stay in the same room with me when I smoke or even ride in the car with me and it is hurting my relationship with her. I want to do it for her and mostly for myself, for I hate being dependant on anything. I have been a heavy smoker for 35 years, over 2 packs a day, this is the first time I have really tried to quit. I will try anything to get rid of my habit.

Question/Comment:

This product works just have to take it till you are completly done smokeing. I have smoked for about 15 years. I used chantix for two weeks quite smokeing for a month and now smokeing agian. If i take it for a month or so I will quite forever. One thing don't stop takeing the product right away wing off of it or you will have the same problem. I am getting back on it and will be smoke free soon.
