Global Patient Feedback for Benicar (Olmesartan) ( Post a comment )
Question/Comment:
My husband takes Benicar. I was reading the comments about this medicine and would like to know why you need to drink 8 ozs. of water when taking it? He was never told that and I want to make sure he is taking it properly so if someone could please help me out with this, I would greatly appreciate it. You can email me at robertandpamela@comcast.net.
Thank you!

I have been on Benicar for about three years now. I take 20 mg every morning. I have never heard of the need for drinking a full glass of water with it. But it sounds like a good idea. I plan on doing this and plan on looking up for more info. Thanks for the imput.

Question/Comment:
I was put on Benicar 20 MG and it helped lower my pressure 10 points. The doctor increased me to 40 MG. I took it for 4 days. I was so dizzy and had nausea and to leave work because my pressure dropped so low I almost passed out. I had major sweats and cold spells. I then slept for a day and a half.
I will not increase to more than 20mg

Question/Comment:
If excess sweating is a potential side effect, could Benicar be implicated in the onset of hidraqdenitis suppurativa in a 57yr old female?

Question/Comment:
Benicar does not seem to have the side-effects that I experienced with other blood pressure medications but I sometimes will get a really low diastolic reading with a fairly high systolic reading and I don't know what to do in that case. I want to take more medication to lower the systolic bp but I am worried about getting the diastolic too low. I don't know if that is a problem or not. The lowest it has been so far is about 43. I know you don't want to have high diastolic pressure but no one ever says how low is too low for it. Anyone know? Thanks.

I have been on benicar for 10 months so far I d not notice any problem but years ago I was on a beta blocker and my pulse went down to 30 and was brought to the hospital in an ambulance but everybodys system is different so don't be alarmed what works for you may not necessarily work for me. But I have noticed I have been losing hair lately could it be from the benicar ?

Question/Comment:
I am 61 and have been taking Benicar 40mg for 2 years. I also take Acebutlol 20mg. I have to take the beta-blocker for palpatations(an extra heart beat). My BP is all over the place - high then low or real high. I go to a Cardiologist every 3 months and stay on a low sodium diet. I am a smoker and wander if that could cause the problem of inconstistancy.

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:
Is it alright to cut a Benicar pill in half? Some pills cannot be cut in half because the ingredients inside may not be uniform throughout. I am taking 20mg & would like to cut it down to 12mg, but wonder IF it would be uniform throughout inside.

Question/Comment:
I have been taking Benicar for about a month -my only complaint is blood bruises appear on my arms if I accidently hit them slightly--They are very disturbing to look at and take a long time to disappear while others will- appear. Also my skin seems to be thinner--cut--like slicing when hit anything like accidently hitting a cabinet door harder than usual-bad cuts bleeding. But this also happened worse with Bystolioc another BP medicine I tried. otherwise Benicar works well keeping my BP down. Does anyone have a side effect like this? I am 78 female.

Answer/Reply:
I have worked as a nurse with many persons in the age group you are, and it is not uncommon to notice that skin gets thinner and bruises occur easier as we age. I would doubt that it has a direct connection with the benicar.

My husband has been taking Benicar for about two years. He has blood bruises on his arms and I was attributing it to the one aspirin a day that he takes. he also has
a very persistent cough. He's 74.

Yes, I do. My arms bruise if I just scratch them. I was blaming the aspirin, but now I am beginning to think it is the benicar. I also experience severe hair loss. any thoughts?

Question/Comment:
As I know so far that Benicar is an excellent medication for high blood pressure. Since I used this my b/p tracking is usually from 106/68 and 110/69. I also would like to have a suggestion for those who are using Atenolol to control b/p; this kind of beta blocker may casue hair loss and many GOOD CARDIOLOGISTS no longer consider beta blocker best for first-line treatment of high blood pressure.

I tried two other medications before I tried Benicar. When I took the others they gave me a dry cough, which was very unpleasant. With the Benicar, I have not had any side effects and it really works to keep my blood pressure under control.
