Please keep up with all your doctors. This medication is great however it does have side effects that could arise and you must stay on top of it.

Question/Comment:
I have found Enbrel to be a life altering medication for me - when I am not taking it (due to chronic sinus infections) I get flares...trying to get that under control and resume my Enbrel regime. The only thing I find with the new auto inject unit is it is a bit more "painful" while the needle is in my thigh (maybe 20 seconds)...the results from taking Enbrel is well-worth that 20 sec of inconvenient "pain". Great drug...wish it wasn't so expensive,

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:
My pharmacist suggested I use the sure click pen in my stomach because there is less nerve endings there. I tried it and it is a lot less painful than in your thigh.

Question/Comment:
Even with health insurance Enbrel is expensive for patients. There are financial assistance programs out there to help. All medications effect each individual differently. Learn and listen to all the pros and cons and ask questions to make an informed decision on taking any medication.

Answer/Reply:
Although his doctor continues to insist that it is NOT the enbrel - whenever my boyfriend goes back to the injections he very soon afterwards will develope some type of very serious infection. A cold became a lung infection that put him in the hospital for a week, a small nick on his calf became a 41/2 inch wide, 3/4 inch deep oozing sore (and led to other sores in the area which took MONTHS to heal), a scratch hardly bigger than a tiny papercut became like an incision, and he catches every virus that goes around - no matter how careful he is. We hadn't noticed any other side effects - he had very little problem with the injection site or any burning/discomfort beyond very minor burning that quickly subsided or anything else. After hearing about other miraculous recoveries, we had both been so hopeful that he could finally get away from the prednisone (which has many other, but less threatening, side-effects such as excessive weight gain). I would just advise anyone starting on Enbrel to use caution and do NOT hesitate to see your doctor if you do come down with a virus or have even a minor scratch that doesn't heal quickly.....

Does this product cause weight gain?

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:
Weight gain was not identified as a side effect observed in clinical trials, although it has been noted in rare spontaneous reports. That said, weight gain is a side-effect of other arthritis treatments.

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:
weight gain did happen to me realy fast and if you read all the side affects like i have you would rather live with what i have and instead of all of what you could be getting. and for my doctor they never told me anything when i started. i did ask alot of quistions and they realy never gave me any answers. so i would not start it and i would go with what i have.

Answer/Reply:
yes it does, very much so. But then again I was also on steroids and I believe that's what gained the weight. Now not so bad, just can't lose what I gained.
