Answer/Reply:
Why was your Actos increased so much at one time? Maybe it would help to talk to your dr. about trying 30 mg. instead of 45.

Answer/Reply:
I HAVE BEEN TAKING ACTOS FOR MANY YEARS. THE DOCTOR EXPLAINS THAT ACTOS HELPS YOUR BODY TO MANAGE THE INSULIN IN YOUR SYSTEM. I AM TAKING GLIMEPIRIDE ONCE A DAY AND AND ACTOS ONCE A DAY. I HAVE BEEN VERY HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS.

Question/Comment:
I'm 72, Type 2 diabetes and have been taking both Actos and Metforman for well over 10 years now.
I'm over weight, but have been so lond before taking Actos (though I sure would like to attribute it to Actos!) I've not noted any side effects from either drug; my blood sugar has been a bit erratic lately
ranging from 94 to 155 before breakfast. Not crazy about going on insulin, anyone know of a another drug regimen more suitable for septuagenarians?

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:
There are a variety of medication for the treatment of diabetes, such as biguanides (such as metformin), sulfonylureas (such as glyburide and glipizide), thiazolidinediones (such as pioglitzone and rosiglitizone) and many more. Since this is a decision that should be discussed with your doctor to see which medication would be best suited for you, it is a good idea to speak to your doctor to find out more about the available options.
While cinnamon tablets may be useful as a supplement for glucose control for some people, it may not be good for everyone. It is good idea to let your doctor know before starting any supplement to make sure it is safe for you to take.

I am 73 and am on Actos. I have had good results with it. My blood glucose before breakfast
runs from 90 to 115. I usually can attribute the rise and fall of mine from something I ate the
day before. It took me quite some time to get all this figured out. Good Luck!

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:
Nausea, upset stomach and stomach pain are common side effects of Metformin. Approximately 5% of iGuard members taking metformin have reported nausea/vomiting and stomach pain. When first prescribed, the dose of metformin is usually slowly increased over a period of weeks to help patient get used to the medication and minimize the side effects of nausea and stomach pain. So, yes, this is a common side effect and patients usually get used to these side effects as they continue to use metformin. Metformin should be taken with food which helps to reduce these side effects of the stomach. If these symptoms continue to bother you, it is a good idea to follow up with your doctor.

I have been taking both Actos and Metformin. I have not really had an side effects while taking either of these medications, however, my physician did cut my dosage of Actos to 1/2 a pill and Metformin to 1 a day instead of 2. However, while I was taking 2 metformin per day, I did get stomach cramps and pains. Once the dosage was cut in half all the symptoms went away.

I have taken Actos for several years and I'm 73 years old. I have never had any side effects on
it. Medications that I do have a drastic side effect to, though. I only give it a week. If I still
feel bad, I call my doctor and say "call me in something else-I'm not taking this any more."
If you wait long enough, nearly all medications will be bad for you according to someone. So
just do the best you can.

Question/Comment:
Actos lowered my Ac1 to 6.4 in 3 months from 7.2. No side effects..yet. Metformin causes major diarhea in many people, including me, so I had to switch. Glad I did. Final results are not in yet, as I take six other scripts for HP, Cholestrol, and Acid reflux. I'm sure to have a side effect somewhere.
Oh yes, my libido went south with the cholestrol drugs. Luckily Cialis works. I buy it overseas for 4 bucks or less a pill, and have had excellent results. I will not pay $ 13 a pill like they want in the once great United States.

Answer/Reply:
I have been told that Actos is the probably the reason that I can't seem to take any weight off. There is a new drug out that does not have this weight problem but at the moment, I cannot remember the name. As soon as I see the name again I am going to ask my doctor if we can try that. Right now I am taking Actoes in combination with Glyburide/Metformin and except for the inability to lose weight, I am completely happy with my drugs as I have my diabetes in control, generally running with an average A1C of 5.9 to 6.5. I am 68 years old and have had diabetes type 2 for over 10 years.

My eosinophile level in my blood reached 59%, very tired, diahrrea, stomach pains decreased functionability of gall bladder. Has anyone else had actos or pioglitizone(sp) do this? I quit taking it 1 1/2 months ago and my eosinophile lever has been going down every since and all symptoms are much better. Drs. suspected leukemia or cancer and were going to do a bone marrow biopsy--this is after many tests--ct scan, haida scan, ultrasound but are just monitoring my blood every 2 weeks.

For cramps you might try putting a cake of soap in your bed near the foot. Any brand. You do not need to touch it. Wrapped or unwrapped is ok. I did not beleive it would work but I have been cramp free for more than 18 months. How does it work? I don't have a clue. Bill

Question/Comment:
Actos has worked wonderfully for me since my doctor first put me on it in 2001 when I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I also am trying to eat healthier and trying hard to loose some weight. I have been fairly successful with the good diet but less successful with loosing the weight. I do think that loosing the weight has been the hardest for me due to my work scedule which often makes it difficult for me to get out and take walk which is my preferred exercise. Don't tell me to go do it in a mall because there are no malls in our area any more that aren't all out doors and do live in a cold, snowy climate in the winter time. I also do NOT live close to town so...

Actos has helped me, my last average range was 6.6 which was 8.4 only 6 weeks before I began taking Actos. So far I have not had any side affects or problems and will continue to take under my physicians care. what is range? I have been taking actos for about 6 months now and have never had any blood test done. It makes me swell, have cramps and my cycles are horrible. Im not very pleased with my doctor. I have tried to talk to her about the issues but she told me to take or go on the shot. I also take two other pills to maintain my blood sugar that was working fine. I never really understood why she put me on the actos to begin with. Does anyone else have a problem with their cycle?
