Question/Comment:
It does not work quickly, so be willing to take it for a year or so. Follow the instructions on how to take it. VERY important.

Question/Comment:
Fosamax isn't enough. Physical therapy for posture training might avoid the kyphosis. Too late for me.

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:
I was on this drug for five years and this past year, I developed a strong ache deep within the bones of my legs. I had a Dopler Test done to see if my circulation was bad but they were clear. My doctor suggested getting off Fosmax and it was nine weeks before the aching stopped. I also complained about my throat hurting when I swallowed food. Even though the deep ache stopped, I'm still plagued with aching in my knees, muscle in my calves, heartburn and also in twofingers on my right hand. I don't know if this medicine ever gets out of your system or continues to cause havoc.I actually have a hard time walking anymore.

Question/Comment:
I have read that Fosamax stops the normal break down rejuvenation of bones and that if taken a long time the bones die. This was originally called dead jaw decease until it was found that all the bones in the body died as a result of stopping the normal process of break-down repair that goes on in all elements of the body. The bones became very brittle and shattered when broken making healing difficult. I too have had my hair thin since taking Fosamax. I took Fosamax for about 13 years. I now have quit on my own. It is not known whether the bones will recover after quitting the drug.

Answer/Reply:
I appreciated your post. After 10 years on Fosamax, I stopped taking it on my own, also. I read that it could cause necrosis of the jaw in SOME people after invasive dental work. I have had invasive dental procedures, and have so far been lucky. I read about jaw necrosis on the internet. My physician and pharmacist were unaware of it; my dentist is unsure and wary. Do you know of any other medication that is safe and will increase bone density?
