Question/Comment:
Advise your doctor of all current conditions, particularly those that may mimic Actonel's side effects. Keep a diary of new or worsening symptoms for your doctor, once you start taking the medication, and have yearly bone density scans, or more often if recommended by your doctor.

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:
I have had a bad rash on my face. It began about 3 weeks after beginning Actonel. I asked my dermatologist about the connection, but was told it was highly unlikely. We looked for a cosmetic connection. I was patch tested for 50 of the ingredients in cosmetics, but there was no reaction. In Nov., I became ill with an infection and was on medication. I forgot to take the Actonel for 3 weeks. When I did take it, after that break, the following morning my face was a mess. I later read something that indicated that a face rash could be a side effect.

Question/Comment:
I have been taking Actonel for three years now. My Endrocronologist prescribed this medication to me because I have Osteoporosis (I am not sure of the spelling). He told me that it was the best of all the medications that is taken for this condition. He also told me that it has the least amount of side effects. I have also Acid Reflux and am taking a medication for that as well. However, when I am taking Actonel once a week, my throat burns for five minutes after I swallow the medication which is crushed and disolved in water ( I cannot swallow pills). That is the only side effect I get from taking Actonel. Please note that I cannot take my acid reflux medication the day I take Actonel.

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:
Crushing Actonel is not recommended, since the crushed tablets are more likely to cause throat and esophageal irritation.
