Loratadine (Claritin) is commonly used for the treatment of the symptoms of nasal allergies and urticaria, which is also known as hives.

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:
I take it to relieve nasal congestion when I have a sinus infection ... I can't take decongestants - they make my heart race. Loretadine makes it bearable.

Question/Comment:
I am one of those people who doesn't go to doctors and doesn't take drugs. Claritin is about the only thing I will take and that is only because my allergies get out of control if not treated. If I knew of something better (that didn't put me to sleep), I would take it.

I would advise that anyone who takes this to keep in mind that you might also have to use other things as well to control symptoms of allergies, Nasonex for instance.

Question/Comment:
Marginally effective allergy medication. No match for Allegra; but my insurance makes the decisions, not me or my doctor.
Not much relief or side effects. The benefits are recognizable only when I stop it for a few days, and even then I'm not sure that it isn't just my imagination.
Available from Sam's Club and other similar stores over the counter in a generic form for minimal cost, < $7/month.

Answer/Reply:
Alavert / Claritin - is more effective against more types of allergens than Allegra is ... trust me I have been on almost all allergy meds since I was I kid growing up in Texas ... Now I live in NC ... lol but Alavert plus certain herbal suppliments have helped me keep my alergies well under control this year and this has been truly bad year here with pollen counts so we were under red flags for 13 days straight earlier this spring ... occassionally needed bendryl back up when alavert wore off ...
Anyways ... hope you have a good day !!!!

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:
Loratadine (Claritin) is indicated to treat allergies and hives and is not typically used to treat dizziness. It may be a good idea to follow up with your doctor to find out what to expect from loratadine and how long it will take to until your see some relief from your symptoms.
