I am also taking Lisnproil 5mg.I started taking them in November of 2007. I am also experiencing a dry cough.

56 year old Female

Answer/Reply:

I will begin mine shortly, 2.5 mg and my cardiologist stated that a dry cough is one of the symptoms.

44 year old Male

Answer/Reply:

I take 2.5 and have some sort of cough and it gets bothersome at times. Only been on it a few months but the cough began not long ago. Strange actually but the Cardiologist said it could occur and she was right.

Question/Comment:

I have not had any side effects from this medicine, I'm not just taking it for my blood pressure, I'm also taking it for my kidneys to help flush them out because of my diabetes. I take 10 mg. once a day. I started out taking just 5 mg for my kidneys then last time I went to my doctor it didn't like my blood pressure was up alittle to much for him and I never had a problem with it before so he upped my mg another 5 but still no side effects but all medicine is not made for everyone and they react to everyone differently.

Question/Comment:

I started taking Lisinopril October 2007. By mid December, I developed a chronic cough and hoarse voice. I thought it was allergies. It was the medication. It took me almost 3 months to recover. My blood pressure improved on Lisinopril but it wasn't worth the side effects. Progesterone Cream has helped me with no side effects.

51 year old Female

Question/Comment:

I have been taking Lisinopril since April 2007. Recently around December I developed a dry cough which almost makes me feel like I'm choking too. I also sneeze after coughing. I came off Lisinopril for a couple of weeks but the cough continues. How long is an adequate time to wait before becoming concerned?

Question/Comment:

I have found that one of the side effects listed on Lisinopril was a dry cough. That seems to be the only side effect I have from taking it. However, my dose is very low and I now only take half a pill a day and my cough has improved. My husband wants me off this drug totally and doesn't agree that I need it. But I fear not at least taking half the dose a day------and yes I hate to go to a doctor and have no immediate plans to go back. This condition was caught because I had to go to urgent care for a cut infection and the doctor decided my pressure was to high even with my attempts to convince her I suffer from "white coat" syndrome really bad.

Question/Comment:

I just read on your site that someone has developed itiching of the skin since taking Lisinopril, is this possible? I never put it together until now, I also started itching since taking this. Please tell me if this medicine can cause this, if so I will talk to my doctor. it itches to the point that it look's like I have a rash. it happen's in one area under the breast area almost to the side.

56 year old Female

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

About 1-2% of patients appear to experience rash/itch with lisinopril... slightly more when taken with hydrochlorothiazide.

Answer/Reply:

I started with itching of the skin and now have a rash. This started when my doctor upped my dose to 40 mgs. When I stop taking my pill for a day, ironically... the itching stops. I am talking to my doctor about this. I have a rash on my back, legs and hips now. I have been on lisinoprils for a couple of months and never had this problem before taking this medicine. I have done some research and found others online that have this same problem.

Question/Comment:

I have had some weight gain after a Hysterectomy. I have just started Taking Dexatrim. Is this safe?

46 year old Female

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

Based on limited information from the manufacturer, dexatrim contains a variety of ingredients such as vitamins, minerals and tea / herbal ingredients that are, in general, low risk products. Dexatrim Max also contains about 50mg of caffeine... although that is roughly the same amount as you will find in a can of diet cola, it could cause problems in patients that are particularly caffeine sensitive.

Question/Comment:

I also have a lot of indigestion and burning in the stomach and don't know which medicine is causing the problem. I've been on these medicines for five years I had a heart attack at the age of 39 and some of the medicines makes my heart feel like its running away and it did not do that before. Also since I have been on all of these medicines I have no sex drive and don't really know what to do. Do you have any answers? I am too young to give it up.

51 year old Female

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

Faced with this kind of situation, it is important that you and a doctor look over your entire medication list and your problem list at the same time. The simplest way to do this is to print out your iGuard medication summary, which will list your personalized risk rating next to each medication On the same page, write your problem list which - by the sound of it - includes heart disease, palpitations, decreased sex drive and indigestion. There may be other problems you might have, such as lowered mood, which are common in patients in your position. Looking over this list with an internist (or your cardiologist) that can see the big picture will help identify which drugs you might need to change or add to improve things for you.

Question/Comment:

Does this medicine stop your sex drive

51 year old Female

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

A very small number of patients (0.4%) in clinical trials reported decreased libido when taking lisinopril versus basically no reports for placebo. Please note that 1.4% of patients reported this problem when lisinopril was taken in combination with hydrochlorothiazide.

Answer/Reply:

I have had no side effects since taking the drug over 5 years.

75 year old Female

Question/Comment:

what can you take for a cold while taking lisinopril?

51 year old Male

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

There are no interactions between lisinopril and acetaminophen, pseudoephedrine or phenylephrine in the iGuard database. Some NSAIDS such as ibuprofen may increase the effect of your blood pressure lowering medications - although unless you are taking other medications, or have very sensitive high blood pressure, this risk won't normally affect your personalized risk rating for lisinopril.

Question/Comment:

I'm considering weaning off lisinopril because of skin itch and indigestion that seems to have occurred since starting on it. Anybody else with similar experience?

76 year old Male

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

My doctor took me off of Lisinipril two weeks ago due to and intense itching. Since stopping the drug I have also suffered from great indegestion which I only had maybe three times a year prior to the drug. I'm hoping getting the drug out of my system will stop all of these symptoms.
