Question/Comment:

I have been taking Zocor for about 6 months now and over the past two months I've been experiencing nerve damage in my left hand and lower back going down my left leg. I've looked it up and found that this can be a very rare side effect of this drug. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

39 year old Female

Answer/Reply:

have been taking simvastatin for 4 months experincing back, leg, and hip pain. also tiredness, chest pain, shortness of breath, and heavy feeling in center of chest. please reply if anyone else has had these problems.

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

I have been taking simvastatin for 12 days. On day eight, I started to have pain in my hip. I went on line and found out that this was a side effect of this drug. I am calling my doctor tomorrow to see what other drug I can go on that would not cuase this side effect.

Does anyone know of a drug that has limited side effects?

Answer/Reply:

i ve been on simvastatin for about 6 mos. i came up with tendonitis in my right elbow. i dont play tennis or golf- a jog and cycle. dr says it was from the mouse and keyboard. spoke to a friend he says its a side effect of statin. he used tumeric and bromilin- elbow pain went away. any comments.??

53 year old Male

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

iGuard has not received any reports regarding tendonitis, although muscle/joint pain seems to be quite a frequent problem (about 15% of iGuard members on simvastatin)

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

I was on Zocor for about 5 years and Simvastatin for the past year. I developed tendonitis in both elbows. I thought this was strange because it started in my left elbow which I have never used repeatedly enough to warrant tennis elbow. I just learned this past month that it is one of the side effects of SImvastatin. Check out "dipex" and read the reviews. There is one from a doctor with Dipex and he confirms that tendonitis is a statin side effect.

I took Zocor for 3 years had numbness (neuropathy) feet/hands/legs/ head top lip plus much ,more. Been off it 6 weeks symptoms decreasing. Pamela SP Age 54 yrs

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

Yes, I have had nerve damage from sing Zocor. If you haven't already done so, GET OFF of it. Drs. willtell you it isn't the Zocor that is causing the nerve problems--believe me, IT IS.

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

I also have had tingling and numbness in my left arm and leg. I have been taking simvastatin for about 3 months now. I had cramping in my calves and then my back started to spasm. I got off of it for about two weeks now with some improvement. However my LDL is at 136 and my cardiologist wants me to restart it at 40 mg. Which I did. Don't know how long this can go on though. 58 yr. old female

Answer/Reply:

My left arm/hand area at times has that feeling of falling asleep...the tingles and have at times had the tingles down my left leg and I often think it is my cell phone vibrating.

Question/Comment:

What does it mean if you have a cough from lisinopril?

43 year old Male

Question/Comment:

I have been on Micardis 40mg and Hydrochlorthiazide 12.5mg and this seems to be working well. The Dr. now wants me to go on 40mg of Simvastatin. The only drawback is the expense of the Micardis....I tried the Lisinopril and had the cough. Also, I am wary of starting another drug.

58 year old Female

Answer/Reply:

Info that is important: My husband also takes Micardis HCT and Simvastatin 40mg. What I did was contacted the drug company by computer, filled out the forms to get the medication for free. The work is tedious but for the cost it is worth it. Look on your bottle and type in the company and you can proceed from there. My husband also stopped taking his Simvastatin because of his muscle in his legs hurt so bad he was afraid to go to sleep at night. We have to find ways to help each other becaue Doctors practice medicine and we are who they practice on. My nephew is a Doctor and as far as I can tell the try different drugs on people like us and if they make a mistake and we die oh well! Practice makes perfect but unfortunately it is us who get the final result.

Question/Comment:

Is a side effect of Simvastatin muscle cramping and pain? Is it a common side effect? I have been having lower leg pain and muscle cramps and was wondering if this is caused by the simvastatin?

30 year old Female

Question/Comment:

After starting SIMVASTATIN I was having severe muscle cramps in many areas of my body. I was then switched to PRAVASTATIN 20 mg. on which I did much better. Recently my dosage was increased to 40 mg. and once again I was having severe muscle cramps. I cut the dosage in half and things clamed down. I contacted my PCP and I just started CRESTOR 10 mg.(rosuvastatin calcium). This is my first week on it and so far, so good. I'll repost if I develope any future problems.

58 year old Female

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

I am/was also on Simvastatin. I had muscle cramps in my legs periodically but one day they were so severe in both legs that I came close to passing out due to the pain. I had a prescription for Quinine tablets that seemed to help, but was not able to refill it due to a new study about quinine.

I am 70, am a diabetic and female.

What dosage would be right for me?

Question/Comment:

If you are taking CQ10 with the lipitor or Zoccor. The CQ10 must be the CQ10-gel form to be affective as it was told to me my my practioner. I had severe fatique with my Statin drug and the fatique disappeared with the CQ10-Gel. Its on the label as CQ-Gel.

Question/Comment:

i am presently taking 10 mg of lisinopril and 20mg of simvastatin. would it be advisable to take a erectile enhancement drug?

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

There are no interactions between lisinopril/simvastatin and sildenafil (viagra) in the iGuard database. That said, Viagra is contraindicated in patients that also take nitrate medications, as well as patients whose heart is not healthy enough for sexual activity.

Question/Comment:

My mother is 84 years old and was in reasonably good heath with exception of diabetes. Her heart is good, but following a mild stoke got symptions of alhezimers and was taken from a hospital to a nursing home, where she got much better. We brought her home and she had done well except for the last few months she has not been able to walk and her left foot swells. She now can barely feed herself and doesn't know many people. I read an article about an 86 year old taking simvastatin (40mg) as my mother but was also taking verapemil. They stopped the simvastatin and she is now much better and within 4 weeks she was walking again, 2 months later she was walking without a walker. I'm wondering is simvastatin is a cause of my mothers issues of not being able to walk and now barely being able to feed herself.

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

While this product is known to cause muscle pain and weakness in some patients, and has been associated with rare reports of confusion and memory loss, the picture you have described is unusual. It is great that your mother is feeling better - it would be great to hear from other patients that have had similar experiences.

Answer/Reply:

Difficulty walking and recovery after several weeks off a statin is commonly reported if you know exactly where to look. Medications.com has similar stories as yours. Lots of them. More than you could possibly read.

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

I have been reading your comments about the harmful effects of statins and as I read about all the complaints of muscle weakness/pain on this and other related sites, I have come to the conclusion that I will NEVER take ANY statins no matter how much my doctor tries to convince me to do so. Nevertheless, I do have a strong family history re cardiac problems and I would like to know what else I can do besides taking these medications to lower my cholesterol. I am presently taking 1000 mg of flaxseed oil softgels, 500 mg of Niacin, and 1200 mg of red yeast rice in addition to a low cholesterol diet. If you have any other suggestions, I would really like to hear them. Has someone in your family (possibly yourself) been severely affected by any statins?

Question/Comment:

I WAS TOLD TO TAKE CO Q10 WHILE STARTING ZOCOR 10MG TO HELP PREVENT SOME SIDE EFFECTS OF ZOCOR IS THIS GOOD ADVICE?

81 year old Male

Answer/Reply:

I've been taking CoQ10 for over 4 years. It doesn't seem to do anything when taking Zocor, but I take the Q10 in the AM & the Zocor at night. Perhaps you might consider taking them together, but based on your question it seems that you haven't tried Zocor for very long so another alternative is to take Zocor alone and see if you have any side effects, then if you do try the CoQ10 with it and see if it helps.

Question/Comment:

I've been taking Simvastatin for about 4 months. Three nights ago I had a night of vomiting when I took all my meds together before going to bed. After some experimenting I've found that Simvastatin causes a great deal of stomach pain if taken without food. Even when eating fruit I still have some stomach pain, and lingering stomach pain at a much lower intensity without vomiting. This AM I woke with a rash on the inside of my left arm which may or may not be related, but this hasn't happened before, so I suspect this may be related to this drug.

Simvastatin has been highly effective in lowering my small dense cholesterol which seems to be the basis for my previous heart disease problems. Prior to this med I was taking Lipitor which had no effect on these particles so I intend to continue to take Simvastatin until I can consult with my Cardiologist.

Answer/Reply:

I started Simvastatiin about a year ago and everyday i have had lower stomach pain 3 to 6 times a day. I got my gall bladder out in July if 2005 and it started about 2 months after that, not bad but off and on. The paid got much wose after I started Simvastatin? Now I am wondering if this is the main cause of all this pain?
