Global Patient Feedback for Simvastatin ( Post a comment )
Question/Comment:
I have just started taking simvastatim/simcor I take a 81 mg aspirin 30 min before taking the medication and I take it at night before bed I have not had the flushing symptom side effect however I have had the leg pain and trouble sleeping I also apparently am having some memory issues's proper terminology for things one other thing is not heartburn or indigestion but gas pain in my chest and back area I have never had this before with anything is anyone else having these symptoms I am torn between the cholestrol/triglyceride levels and all the horror story's one hears about statins my total cholestrol is 257 before taking any medications my level was 225 triglycerides were 151 which seems minimal as far as being over my PA prescribed Tricor for the triglycerides and it seems that all my levels are elevating ever since taking something to lower the levels I almost wonder if I would not have been better off not doing anything its as if my body has rebelled against the medication we have discontinued the Tricor and started with the simcor but I am not pleased with the side effects

Question/Comment:
I have been taking simvastatin for about 7 1/2 months. Three times lately I have been awakened with bad leg pain. Last night it was excruciating...nothing I did helped ease it. I just had to wait it out. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this experience. It was worse than muscles cramps; I've had them and could walk them off quickly. This was different and much worse.

Be sure to supplement your pills with cq10 for the muscles. A dosage of 100mg will usually remove your symptons. It is over the counter and can be found in any CVS, Stop&Shop, etc in the Vitamin section.
I have been on Simvastatin for quite some time and this has really helped.
Good Luck1

I have been taking simvastatin for over 3 years now. At first I noticed little/or no side affects. I am a keen sportsman and thought that I had puylkled a muscle one day whilst playing sport. Although to this day the pain in my leg has got worse. I didn't pout it down to simvastatin but since reading all of these articles on the web I am sure that simvastatin has something to do with this. The muslce pain has got progressively worse over the last year. I have now stopped taking the medication for the time being to see if this would reduce or eliminate the pain in my left leg, so far, having been off the drug for 7 days i am noticing a little less pain in the leg however, it is still there. I went to the doctors last week and he sent me for an x-ray still awaiting the results, I suggested it might be the simvastatin but he simply brushed this idea away and said to stop being ridiculous. I am in fear that this drug may have irreversibly damaged the muscles/nerves in my leg.

Question/Comment:
i exercise, eat pretty healthy, take omega-3 fish oil, flaxseed oil and was taking red rice yeast capsules to try to lower my cholesterol since last August but my numbers kept going up and down. it didnn't help when i found out last August that I have hypothyroidism. finally have that under control but cholesterol is still high ( runs in family) so i just started May 10th on free samples of 20mg Zocor. doctor had me stop the red yeast rice and i will do blood workup in july. haven't had any side effects, that's the only thing that scares me about statin drugs.

I am on the generic of zocar and experience short term memory loss and it is aggravating but luckily no long term memory loss. I do what I must to keep my heart a beating at a slower pace and stay alive, plain and simple!

Hmm, I somtimes wonder but I also got the alert concerning fibrates and simvastatin. I also for some reason have a bad cough and heaviness in my chest area which at times affects my breathing. I stopped taking Lisinopril as that causes coughs but not sure what else is going on.

Answer/Reply:
I tried to find other ways to lower my cholesterol. I went on lowfat/lowcholesterol diet, took vitamin supplements and started an exercise program. My bad cholesterol went up and my good cholesterol went down. Hmmmm anyway my dr. told me to go back on the simvastatin and go back to eating what I was eating before. Cholesterol numbers have improved. Only problem I have seen is leg cramps when I exercise. I told my dr. about this and she lowered my dose. Hasn't really helped so I cannot exercise for very long at a time.

"hypothetical risks"??? Have you ever seen a statin victim? They struggle to walk. They can't remember your name, and if severely affected they can look like a holocaust victim. I will never forget these people.
