It takes a few weeks to really feel the effects and relief. Also, most side effects only last a few days.

Question/Comment:
I had severe panic attacks for years and had taken many different medications. Paxil was the only one that took the edge off of the anxiety, enough for me to still feel in control.

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:
I have been on Paxil for 2 years and gained a substantial amount of weight -- probably 50 pounds. I feel I have no other option because I was suicidal without it and would have anger bursts. I have also lots ALL of my libido.

Question/Comment:
Is there a difference between Paxil CR and the generic equivalent? I was told the control release is best but it is more costly.

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:
The FDA has a strict process in place to check that generic products are "bioequivalent" to the brand products, that said it would be great to get feedback from other patients who may have experience with both generic and brand paroxetine products.

Answer/Reply:
One psychiatrist once told me that he did not think there was any significant difference between 12.5 mg of Paxil CR and 10mg of ordinary Paxil. However, I cannot guarantee that. I have only tried Paxil CR.

Question/Comment:
For me, even a small amount of alcohol increased the negative side effects of Paroxetine, and I believe also caused migraine headaches. I have decided to quit alcohol completely while I am taking this drug. If you are experiencing chronic pain and increased anxiety during your adjustment to Paroxetine, you may ask your doctor about alternate solutions. My doctor prescribed Oxycodon. It helped me stick with the Paroxetine through the first month while my body adjusted.

I was just reading your answer and I just wanted to comment that the Doctor prescribed this to me to treat migraine headaches.. I sure hope it is not contributing to them.

Question/Comment:
Does alcohol have any effect on this medication

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:
Alcohol is well known to both increase and decrease the effect of different anti-depressant medications, including paroxetine. If you are taking this product, you should avoid drinking alcohol to minimize your risk of side-effects.

Answer/Reply:
Alcohol can definitely have an effect on/with this medication. It's suggested that you don't drink any - though I do o.k. if I have an occasional drink. Just be sure you've been on the meds long enough to know how it affects you before you drink any alcohol.

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:
I would be very careful drinking while taking Paxil. I am not a big drinker, usually once or twice a year, but since hitting a rough spot in my life I started taking Paxil and drinking more. My doctor said drinking would not be a problem. One beer hits me like 3 and I can't stop. 5 beers and I completely black out. A Vegas trip for a bachelor party where Tequila flowed like water resulted in me waking up at home with no recollection of the previous 48 hours or the 5 hour drive home. Thank God for good friends who took care of me.
