Answer/Reply:
I take Lexapro, and just started Buspar. The Buspar doesn't see to have any negative side effects for me at all, but the site does warn about the combo creating a seretonin disorder. It's new, but so far so good.

Question/Comment:
Dr. started me on 10mg Buspar twice a day for anxiety/panic attacks associated with my hypothyroid. It took about 3 weeks before an annoying 'hot flash' finally stopped. However, I have now noticed that it makes me extremely tired for up to 3+ hours and my blood pressure drops very low (88/55 at its lowest). I have cut the buspar down to 5mg twice a day, but the low blood pressure still persists. Not sure what to do now? Has this happened to anyone else? The good news is that I have not had any panic attacks and I'm too tired to have anxiety.

Answer/Reply:
I've been on Buspar for 3 days now. Has anyone had a lot of difficulty with the side effects. It almost seems like this medicine is making my anxiety worse instead of better. My doctor prescribed 15 mg twice a day. I took that the 1st day. On the second day, I tool 7.5 mg and today I took 5 mg. I was hoping by reducing the doseage, I would feel less side effects. This doesn't seem to be the case. My side effects are headache, inner nervousness, nausea (with heaving), dizziness. I understand that all my side effects are very normal. How long will they last? I also have that spinning sensation that another member mentioned in an earlier post.

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:
Buspar is used to treat anxiety. Normally the starting dose is 7.5 mg twice a day, and then the dose is gradually increased until the desire effect is met. Your doctor may feel that starting with 15mg twice a day is the proper dose for you.
Headache, nausea and dizziness are common side effect of Buspar. The anxiety you feel may be due to other reasons, or that the medication has not started to work yet. The duration of the effects is different in each person. If these side effects continue to bother you, it is a good idea to follow up with your doctor to see if he or she wants to adjust your medication. Buspar should be used as your doctor directed to maintain a constant effect on your condition. You should not self adjust the use of your medication without first talking with your doctor.

I found that whenever I combined Buspar with caffeine, I got dizzy and my head would feel like it was spinning. Therefore, I now wait an hour after taking the morning pill to drink a cup of coffee. Works well for me.

Question/Comment:
I take Zoloft 50 mg (once a day), BuSpar 15 mg (twice a day) and Valium 5 mg (once a day) for a panic/anxiety disorder. This combination has worked absolute wonders for me until a doctor I don't normally see increased my Zoloft to 100 mg. I had two panic attacks in one week and ended up the ER. My regular doctor lowered the dosage back to 50 mg and I've been good to go ever since. I have been on these meds since 1997.

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:
My boyfriend took Zoloft before which help with depression but made him had panic attacks worst than before. IF something is working for you then don't let doctors increase you doses because doctors know alot less than you think about these medcines. These are strong medications that should always be used with caution . They can do you much harm as they can do you good if you don't pay attention to what they are giving you...

i have been treated for manic depression, bi-polar, and social anxiety dissorder for about 9 years now, i have been on a bevy of medications over the years most of which did not help me, recently i was prescribed buspar for aid in helping me sleep. i also take wellbutrin daily and on occasion flexeril. however the buspar medication did nothing to assist me in getting a better nights sleep. it did not help me feel drowsy, nor did i encounter any adverse side effects. at this point and current date my docter has discontinued this medication.

Question/Comment:
I've taken Buspar for 8-10 years (currently 60MG/day) and it has really helped until the last few months. I took it with Lamictal (with none of the side effects sometimes associated with the combination) until recently. As is normal for me after 3-5 years with meds taken primarily for bi-polar (I take the buspar for anxiety), the Lamictal is no longer effective. I'm in the process of changing psychiatrists and will see the new one in about 2 weeks. So I will most likely be starting something new both for bi-polar and anxiety. My old psychiatrist stopped my prescription to Adderral RX on the silly premise that I did well in school 50 years ago and therefore I do not have ADD. I've had major problems with concentration and getting things done since then.

Question/Comment:
Make sure that he pharmacist and your doctor is aware of all medications that you take, your primary care physician may not be aware of another medication that another doctor prescribed for you to prevent a possible medication interaction. Read the literature that comes with the prescription. Pay attention for side effects and if you have questions do not hesitate to telephone or visit the pharmacy that filled your medication or call your doctor's office. Also realize that it may take several weeks for the medication to take full effect and help you feel better. And try to remember to avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice.
