iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

Fluconazole is commonly used to treat yeast infections and this short term use is generally safe in healthy women who are not taking other medications or do not have other medical conditions.

You can check for health and drug interactions but updating your profile with your current medications, vitamins and supplements as well as your current medical conditions. After updating your profile, any health or drug interactions that are specific to you will be highlighted when you click on "look up" and type in fluconazole.

I have COPD also and with all the meds I have to take (13 different meds), especially the inhalers, and the powder inhalers they all cause thrush. I get it about once every two months or so. It's awful and it WILL NOT go away on its' own so it's not going to help to wait and suffer to see if it will go away. The best thing to do is get it treated with this drug. I don't like it..and I hate that it also kills the good bugs (like you say) as well as the bad bugs but what can you do? You have to get it under control or else you will be sick from it. I can relate to what you are saying. Lots of luck to you as I know exactly what you are going throuugh, firsthand. Take care...

When I was very sick and in the hospital in 1997, the disease that I had (valley fever) caused and is still causing me to get thrush. There was a very nice nurse that brought me in a bottle of saline solution and some salt. She had me gargle every day with the mixed solutin, and it went away and my mouth was not sore any more. She also told me that since I would be on this dreaded medication (fluconazole, diflucan) it would still cause me to get thrush, BUT when you notice that your saliva is getting thick or your tounge is alittle sore, gargle right away for a couple of days and it will not let the thrush become active. I also have copd along with alot of other things, the scar I have on my lung is valley fever, the fluconazole keeps it shrunk and inactive, when they try to take me off the fluconazole the spot begins to grow. Try the saline salt mixture, what can it hurt? And it just might prevent the thrush for you

I also suffered Valley fever in 2004 and a mold was found in my left lung. I also have a scar in my lung. My immunity is very low so my doctor said I have to take Diflucan 400 mg daily for life to avoid a reoccurence.

I take it every morning with other medications and try to stay alert at work.

Thank you for that helpful advise. Next time my mouth gets sore I'm trying that. I too have valley fever I've got it when I had my Kidneys removed. I had cancer in both of my kidneys. So now I'm a Kidney Transplant Patient. My doctor put me on Fluconazole(Diflucan) and I've been on it for 2 years. Hope things get better for you . I'm female age 62. Good Luck.
