I have been taking wellbutrine for about a month now and have been having trouble swallowing and hoarsness in my voice and I think my acid reflux has gotten worse. Has anyone else had this problem? I feel like my throat is tight a lot. My doctor says she does not think it is due to the medincine and I hate to stop taking it but if this is ongoing I might have too.

Answer/Reply:
I have been on Wellbutrin for 3 years and yes my acid reflux has gotten worse. I took an acid reflux medication for about 4 weeks and this seemed to reduce my symptoms. If it returns I will do another treatment every so often. Wellbutrin does the following for me: decrease in depression, able to be more proactive, increase in libido, more ability to control over eatting; slight memory loss, loss of smooth speech and articulation (sometimes I struggle to find the right words and use disjointed sentences and simple can communicate as well) ESPECIALLY during PMS; also I have more anxiety that I do when I am not on Wellbutrin. I also have found that a generic form of Wellbutrin did not work as well. It had WPI printed on the tablet. I now take 300 mg of the brand name daily. I suffer from depression and have no other major problems like OCD or weight control problems.
Do other people out there have losf of memory and/or speech problems like diminished articulation and the struggle to find the right word?????

Answer/Reply:
I take a cocktail of meds including a generic of wellbutrin & I have the memory issues. I also have the same issues regarding speech, articulation, etc.
I was tested for a variety of neuro problems, all of which were eliminated. The only med. issue found was sleep apnea. However they did not feel that this was a contributing factor. I was advised that meds. were the most likely cause & a choice I'd have to make. I am bipolar 1 w/mixed rapid cycling, ptsd, depression & some attachment issues. The mixture of meds that I have now are great & I don't want to risk changing them. However, the loss of speech, words and the capacity to think & express myself is quite frightening.
The best thing that I have found is just to not blame myself for every shortcoming. The skills/abilities that I've had to forfeit are worth the opportunity to function & have some semblence of a "regular" life.

I had that problem when taking prescription Ambien to help me sleep. I had a severe speech problem with diminished articulation! I stopped taking the Ambien, switched to the Welbutrin SR instead of the XL(XR?) and had no more trouble sleeping.

Well, I had a surgery two Octobers ago, and when I awoke, I had severe memory problems, to the point that the dr. in the ER thought I had been overdosed w/ anesthesia (which may still be the case...) but when I went back to see my neurologist, he "claims" that it was a coincidence that my memory problem and surgery were at the same time. He claims that it was my Topamax for migraines that I was on. I started Wellbutrin from the depression that this incidence brought on, and never had any relapses w/ memory/trouble swallowing/acid reflux, etc...just w/ the Topamax did I have weird side effects. Numbness in face/mouth, couldn't drink carbonated beverages, loss of memory (couldn't figure out how to even read a calendar, etc..to figure out the day/date)

Wow, this is what I feel like, too. I have problems naming the students in my class, confusing them and saying their names correctly. My memory is horrible, especially the short term. I cannot remember where I put things down, and experience some confusion filing things. My doctor added Lexapro to my Wellbutrin, so I could sleep at night, too.

Memory problems is a possible side effect of Wellbutrin. However, it is not a common side effect- less than 1% of iGuard members reported mental haziness as a side effect of Wellbutrin. If this side effect continues to bother you, it may be a good idea to let your doctor know and see if he or she wants adjust your medication or switch to an alternative treatment.

I have just recently been put on generic wellbutrin SR. Although I was having problems with loss of memory, trouble with articulation, struggling to find the right words and the speech problems before, they havent gotten better. They are a little worse because it seems I am stuttering some too.
I am also on Celexa. The combination is helping some with the depression. The derpession has been caused by chronic pain from work related injury. I also am unable to sleep at night and have to take ambien or lunesta. The ambien works better, I stay alseep longer. I took lunesta tonight and I am awake 3 hous later, sigh.
One thing I have noted since on the meds, is that I can be sleeping and I feel like I am dreaming. In the dreams it is like I am picking stuff up from a counter, or tryping to open something. I wake up where I am picking at my sheets or pillow.

Is there a potential problem with taking wellbutrin XL along with prednisone? I was prescribed a 10 day course of treatment of prednisone while on Wellbutrin. Thanks!

Posted: 2009-02-11 00:35:36
iGuard.org Answer/Reply:
Using Wellbutrin XL and prednisone together may increase the risk of seizures, particularly in older patients and patients with a past history of epilepsy or seizures. The risk of seizures from this interaction is low, especially with the short course of prednisone. In most cases the benefits of prednisone will outweigh the risks of the interaction with Wellbutrin XL. If you have a history of epilepsy or seizures or if you are concerned about this interaction, you should talk to your doctor more about it. You can also monitor for signs of problems, such as changes in your mental status or other unexplained changes in your mood or behavior, and follow up with your doctor as soon as possible if these occur.

Question/Comment:
I recently started taking Wellbutrin XL - one whole week :o) - 150 after a # of years of taking Effexor XL...the effexor wasn't working any longer.
Question - I am feeling much more energetic, happier at times however I am finding I have an explosive temper - anger outbursts for really no real reason - driving my kids to soccer on Tuesday I was ranting about having to drive them, being stuck in traffic etc.,
Has anyone else experienced an increase in anger/anxiety and will this effect subside?
There are times I don't know who I am and that could be because the Effexor has numbed all my emotions to the point where I didn't have any.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I have been on Effexor 150XL & 6 mg Clonazepam for a number of years. Recently, the doc added Wellbutrin 150XL to the mix and I'm getting some of the same reaction as you, but milder.
Before Wellbutrin I got to the point of being suicidal. Now I'm not, but my anger comes out easier - which is a good thing instead of bottling it up. I also have much more energy, but it's erratic. My body's still adjusting because it's only been 2 weeks since we added the WB. I saw my doctor last week and he has great hopes for this combination, unlike the dozens of others we tried so far. I also think and reason much more clearly. In the last few months, my brain was like mush. Things are looking up with the Effexor & WB, combined, which apparently boost each other. Ask your doctor and good luck.

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:
Hi there!! I, too, have experience with that. The anger over the dumbest things, and screaming and hollering...well they said it was part of the depression, but seeing you write that makes me think it could have been from starting the wellbutrin. I switched from Zoloft to the wellbutrin and wasn't doing a good job of taking like I was supposed to, and thought that that might be the problem. So, my last doctors appt was on January 4th, and after he told me to make sure I take it I set an alarm for myself. Approximately 2 weeks ago is when I noticed an incredible change in my calmness, ability to think clearly, and not let things bother me. I had an appt today, and the doctor said, "that's about right, it usually takes 6-8 weeks for it to have it's full effect". When I say incredible change, I really mean it because I haven't felt this way in many years and it feels sooooooo good!! So hang in there, and hopefully after taking it properly for 6-8 weeks you, too, will notice a change for the better.
Hope this helps!!

i have heard of both increased agitation/irritability and anxiety with wellbutrin. i've always been told that many, if not most, of the negative side effects of psychiatric medications will subside with time. this isn't always true, though; and, if it is in this case, you have to figure out how long you are willing to wait.

I've been on Wellbutrin for a little over a year. I generally am pleasant to be around but I admit there are times that I am angered too over the littlest of things. Like today, the hospital I visited had valet parking and when the kid came to get my car he says "how can I help you today?" and I looked at him like he was crazy. What do you think...I want you to park the car. Anyway I wasn't very friendly to him...the clincher...he saw me later and called me by my first name which I'd given him for the claim ticket. I immediately knew the reason he remembered my name was because I was so nasty to him.
Yes, I've been more angry. It often comes in traffic, in the checkout line with "ignorant" sales clerks...just small silly stuff. I understand sometimes questioning who you are.
I just deal with it. Try to get a grasp on it when I catch myself. Well butrin works so much better than others I've been (BONUS: it helped me quit smoking.)
I suffered from PMS in my younger years and couldn't control my temper sometimes. I mean while I was out of control I was perfectly aware I was out of control and I seemed to almost enjoy being that way. Wellbutrin kinda does the same thing. (Not as drastic but much the same). J
The trade off though, more happier days and moments and enjoyment of life again, is worth being a b***ch at times. But when it starts welling up in you stop, breathe, SMILE (not smirk) SMILE. The SMILE almost forces you back down to earth..really.

I have been taking Budiprion(generic for Wellbutrin) for almost two years. I started at the lower dose and now I am at 300mg. It has made a big difference. I do exercise and watch what I eat and try to get plenty of rest but occasionally I too get agitated. I don't believe any meds will completely make us calm all the time. When I do find it hard to handle a situation, I just step away(if possible) or try to calm myself by taking some deep breaths. When I successfully cope, I give myself an "atta girl" for getting through the situation. Give yourself a little time on this dosage for your body to adjust and I'm sure you will be fine. Blessings.

I was taking the same dose for a very long time (they just reduced it to 100), but I don't remember having that type of reaction. Have you looked up the possible side effects for this medication? I had a considerable increase in my sex drive, so I wonder if it couldn't be somehow interacting with your hormones. My suggestion would be to check out the side effects and perhaps the contraindications. You might get some clue from that.

I did not have the side affects that you are speaking of but did have several weeks of being very emotional. I remember crying at the drop of a hat, literally if I dropped something I was in tears. This stopped after about 2 to 3 weeks and now I am feeling fine, I have heard from different people that they have experienced some of the same things that you describe and that it also subsides after about 2 to 3 weeks and sometimes 4. I really can't give you a reason for this, but if you can handle the next couple of weeks it will get so much better. Good luck to you!!

Question/Comment:
Been on Bupropion XL (Wellbutrin) for 5 weeks now and not sure I'm getting the postive effects it was prescribed for. I was told it takes "a few weeks" then "3-4 weeks" then "5-6 weeks."
What is it? How long to kick in. So far, the only thing it's doing is keeping me up all night. My heart beats fast and my mind is going non-stop. I have to take a 50mg Over the counter Sleep aid just to get a few hours of sleep and sometimes chase it with a .25 xanax. The Doc gave me a scrip for Trazadone "for sleep" but I stop that after 2 sleepless nights. I still feel the anxiety and need a zanax to tackle the "Break-thru anxiety." When I take the Bupropion in the morning I almost immediatly feel the jitters and my anxiety level increases. I'm thinking of just getting off the meds completely and just using the xanax as needed. A friend said that he tried all the meds for years and the only thing that works for him is a low dose xanax in the AM and one before Bed. Any thoughts would be appreciated...

Hello, talk with your doctor about the time of day when you take your meds. I know I can't take my Effexor after 2 pm or it messes up my sleep schedule for the coming night. I take Wellbutrin too but I take that in the morning when I first get up. With some of the medications, the TIME OF DAY IS SUPER IMPORTANT. Good luck.

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:
Hi, remember Medicine is not an exact science. Pills/Medications you may have to play with to get time of day, dosage amount, even prescription correct. Move forward in a logical sequence trying to see what works best. For example: try time of day (it's usually the easiest). if you can't sleep and you take 1 pill 2X per day back up the 2nd dose to say 3pm for 4 days and see what happens. If you still can't sleep, back up the time you take the 2nd dose to 1 pm for 4 days and see what happens. If that takes care of the sleep problem you're good to go. Move on to the next issue. Jitters-do the jitters happen 30 minutes after you take the medication, do they last the entire time you take the medication, do the jitters taper off, are the jitters really strong between 30 minutes after taking the pill to 4 hours after taking the pill? Chart over a 5 day period the time of day the jitters occur and when the jitters are strongest. Create a scale of intensity, say from 0-7 wth 7 being constant and can't hold a pencil, to 0 with no jitters and can write legibly and clearly. I think you get the idea. Tracking the actual physical symptoms will help you too. Sometimes, what we perceive to be really awful isn't so bad once we start keeping track of it on paper. I have had it happen to me personally and with my students when I have had to track behaviors or learning skills. Putting things to paper really does help you to see a pattern if one really exists. Good luck and I hope my idea and examples help. =)

Well I dont know how long it took other people, but I had fast heartbeat and jitterness to for a minute. I have been on it now for four months and I say it has been a good month since my symptoms have went away. In order to avoid, or lessen, the trouble sleeping at night, take your pills BEFORE 3 pm. I have to wait 6 hours in between mine. I take my first pill at 7 am in the morning, so that gives me time to take it before 3 pm. I dont know your schedule, but if you take 2 pills a day, I would suggest setting yoru clock for maybe 7 am in the morning, just so you can take that pill and go back to sleep (you will be able to fall back asleep). That way you can take your second one early and not have such a bad night.

Question/Comment:
20-50 MINUTE SEIZURE EPISODES. I have been taking wellbutrin XL for about l8 months. Initial effects were excellent, including increased energy and weight loss. HOWEVER, once I started the generic I actually felt much worse, and became almost suicidally depressed. My doctor switched me to Wellbutrin SL, slightly less effective but again my insurance insisted on the generic, which was like taking nothing or less than nothing. So I went back to the actual Wellbutrin XL, the non-generic. Within a month I began developing the following symptoms:
first the room seemed to jump around, as if I had been wearing the wrong glasses. The dizziness and nausea made me unable to look at anything across the room, to read etc. More terrifying, the dizziness is followed immediately by nausea and shooting electrical pains in the head & face area-- it can be my jaw, forehead, sinus area, throat--it moves around from episode to episode. These episodes last 20-50 minutes on average. The second episode happened about a week after the first. Then it was twice a week. Then twice a day. I began to be wakened from a sound sleep in the midst of these seizure-like events. At its worst I was having episodes 6 or 7 times a day. I had been taking neuontin for about 7 years-- about 1200mg per day, against bipolar reactions. I has increased the neurontin with the wellbultrin XL.
Now I find the only things that help these seizures are: VIGOROUS EXERICSE. Really a lot of fun at 2 a.m. when you wake with one of these episodes. Klonopin definitely helps a little as well, and I have had some relief from the homeopathic remedies sepia and nux vomica, as well as Carlsson's fish oil with lemon extractt (my shrink's suggestion, actually.) I want to know
HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THESE STRANGE ELECTRICAL SHOOTING SENSATIONS AND EPISODES OF DIZZINESS? First I thought the neurontin was to blame, and stopped taking it. That only made the episodes worse & more frequent. Now that I stopped taking Wellbutrin XL AND the neurontin I am finally beginning to have some relief, though I still get at least 2-3 episodes per day. They are shorter and less intense than before. Thanks for any shared experiences and advice-- especially on how to get past all this!

I have only experienced a bit nausea or dizzyness at the end of a ballet class (not even doing pirouettes). I have noticed however, that it was minimal and only after overexertion. It could also be associated with caffeine and Wellbutrin and overexertion--the triple combination. I'm not sure.

My doc has added Wellbutrin XL to drug cocktail. Zoloft, Gabapentin, Clozapam and Adderall.
The pills just arrived from Canada. I am just looking at the unopened box. I feel pretty good as I am. I am putting the Wellbutrin XL on hold and will let my doc know. Also I would like to caution anyone taking clozapam. I take it and works very well for me but it includes the danger of addiction. If you can't manage to take it as prescribed and increase dosage on your own you should be aware that you headed for serious trouble. Confess to your doctor right away. No one wants the problems of addiction and withdrawal when you run out meds to soon as a result of self prescribing. Danger

I have recently been changed to budeprion SR instead of buproprion SR (by my pharmacy), and I have noticed it is taking me longer to get to sleep, I'm more moody and agitated and anxious, my hair is falling out badly in front, and the medication definitely smells different. Although the pharmacy says they are the same. I have also gained weight where I had been stable on buproprion SR for over 4 years. I had been told to increase my dose a month ago but feel that increase may be the culprit. I don't have the orgasmic difficulty I did when I was on SSRI's, or the antipsychotics, and the Xanax. I don't feel the present medication is helping me enough, and others I have tried used have had far worse side effects, and didn't work any better. I felt more slow and depressed when taking Xanax and had memory problems. I stopped it and started it for different periods of time and never felt and addiction to it. I did pretty well on hydroxyzine for anxiety for awhile except I was dried up everywhere! I think some meds just stop working after awhile.

My son was taking the generic form of Wellbutrin XL for 2 months and we noticed it was not working for him as the actual Wellbutrin XL was. He was short tempered, didn't want to eat, grumpy, mad at the world, and was not able to keep his concentration on anything. I contacted his doctor and asked that a new prescription be written for Wellbutrin XL ONLY, not to be replaced with a generic form of the med. When I went back to the pharmacy and asked them to replace the new prescrip with the old, I was told that they had heard other complaints that the generic med for Wellbutrin XL did not work for others.

I was taking Bupropion XL for about 3 months. Was previously on Prozac and what a difference! On bupropion I was no longer exhausted. After the first few weeks, I became extremely irritable and had serious anger management issues. I was convinced that I developed a psychotic disorder. I felt like a prisoner in my own mind. I could not control any of my emotions and would lash out at the smallest thing. 1 minute I would want to kill someone and then 5 minutes later I felt completely fine and I couldn't even understand why I would get so pissed off about something so small. My doctor tried to add Lexapro to control me a bit but gave me the same side effects as Prozac so he switched me to Pristiq. Pristiq seemed pretty good but I was not on it long enough to make a decision. I stopped my medication cold turkey right before Christmas. I told my doctor and he did not seem too concerned about it because both Wellbutrin and Pristiq are SNRI's so they are not as active on serotonin as SSRI's are. For about 3-4 days I had a constant migraine/headache. It felt like my brain was literally floating around my head in a gel bath. Nausea and dizziness were a big withdrawal symptom also.
I have since been doing excellent without my medication but I knew that I did not need them anymore. It had been about 6 months since I started them due to a horrific episode. I told my doctor that I wanted to see how I would be without them because the wellbutrin was ruining my life and I am too sensitive to the side effects of SSRIs. I will go back on medication if I ever need to but hopefully I won't have to because I was either a psychopath or a zombie on them.

Question/Comment:
I've been taking wellbutrin for six months, 100 mg in the AM. Four months into the routine I started to feel the positive side effect of getting sleepy at night. However, now, six months into treatment I am very snappy-meaning my temper is very very short n I have to take temazapam again to fall asleep. The worst part is that I do hard-core yoga n meditation 5 days a week(all four paths-karma, jnana, bhakti, n raja) plus cardio but Im still not centered or at peace with things(always thinking). In fact Im really embarassed that I get angry at warp-speed. I am practicing cbt all day long n biting my tongue opting to smile n not comment about anything. Im just beating myself up to get by...15 hours a day. Any insights...objectivity is valuable...tnx

Had the same problem with shortness of temper-- also bluntness of speech. Also indigestion, lack of appetite, disorientation, memory loss, frequent urination, & insomnia, though I got a lot more done when I slept less. Hard to focus mentally and at a loss for words & ideas. I too was far more impatient. The main reason I stopped was because of seizures, however. The withdrawal had to be immediate and I think it will take some time for all this to get out of my system. I'd just have to say, Be very, very careful with this drug. No one knows exactly how these things work so who knows what they are doing to out bodies & brains. I feel a bit like a rat in a lab experiment.

Does anyone taking Buproprion (the generic version of Wellbutrin) notice the intense, really horrible smell to it? If so, has it upset your stomach at all? I have had chronic stomach problems since starting it and I am almost sure it is because of this med. Want to know if someone else has the same suspicion.

I have been taking the generic form of wellbutrin, bupropion. I don't notice any bad smell of the pill at all. It doesn't taste any different either. I just worry about the seizure warnings. I guess you take as directed and just be monitored by MD.

Yes, wellbutrin smells bad. It seems like some manufacturer's meds smell worse than others. Although maybe it has more to do with how old they are. I don't know for sure. But, yes they smell horrible. I have had chronic stomach/intestinal problems all my life and I haven't noticed any worsening of those symptoms.

Question/Comment:
Just started Bupropion (Generic for Wellbutin) for anxiety. I'm also taking Zanax "as needed" until the Bupropion kicks in. Doc told me I should not need the zanax after the Bupropion kicks except for extreme stressful situations. I see that Bupropion is mostly prescribed for Depression but not for anxiety. In fact, several posting stated that anxiety can be a side effect of Bupropion. I feel better when taking the zanaz but don't like the addictive properties that zanax has. Doc also told me that he wants me on the Bupropion for about 6 months than would like to slowing take me off.
I'm a 46 year old male that has never been on any anxiety meds before. Although looking back, I have had some anxiety my entire life, recent events have made me turn to meds at this time. life.
Would appreciate any comments and would love to exchange emails w/any person w/the same issues.

I am on my 4th week of Wellbutrin SR (300mg) and just in the last couple days has it affected my depression. It did help take away a lot of my aches an pains within a few days, however. That is one way major depression affects me - my body aches and I get tired and out of breath - feel like a very old man. (I'm a 49 year old male, BTW.) At least 10 year history of depression/anxiety. This med has increased my anxiety in the past - it became a big problem. On the plus side, most people feel more energy after this drug kicks in (4 weeks or more in most cases). And energy is something I've had none of for close to 2 months. Bottom line: ride out the nasty side effects if you can for at least 4 weeks, then evaluate how you feel.
At this point in your treatment, do you feel better yet?

I took trazadone for years. It takes a few days for it to build up in your system and then you will be able to sleep. Just be careful you can get up in the morning and take it 8 hrs. before you plan to get up. I slept through my children having parties while on it. I currently take xanax and simply sleep before bed and that combo works great for me. I also take 450 mg wellbutrin and celexa and I feel great. Good luck.

Tiredness is a common side effect of Buproprion â about 5% of iGuard members taking bupropion have reported this side effect. You may want to follow up with your doctor if this symptom continues to bother you and see if this medication and dosage is right for you. You should not self adjust the use of your Bupropion, or any medicine, without first talking with your doctor.

A new psychiatrist has recently started to wean me off of my (225mg/day) effexor and has put me on wellbutrin XL, Lamictal, Abilify & Klonopin. Is this too much? I've read the risks of seizure etc., but I'm also concerned about taking so many med's. Is this a good combination?

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:
Finding the right combination of medications to treat a psychological condition is difficult. It is best to ask your psychiatrist about the risks and benefits of this combination of medications since these depend on your medical history and the other medications you take. Also, since there are some serious but rare side effects (such as seizures) to these medications, please report any unexplained symptoms or changes in behavior to your doctor immediately.

Here is my Meds I take, Seroquel 600, Wellbutrin 450, Cymbalta 60-120, Topamax 100, Lamictal 200, Xanax up to 2 mg as needed.
This is a lot but when you research each one individually they address different issues. I have been taking these for about two years since the last time I attempted suicide, serious overdose 10% chance barely made it.
You have to do all of your research present it to your doctor and work with your pharmacist. My dr appreciates when I bring him new info as with the RX's he prescribes monthly he cannot possibly keep up on everything.
Wellbutrin is a wonderful drug unlike any other if your depression has a low ratio of mania. I am not sure about Abilify as I take Seroquel since it is also a sleep aid. Lamictal is a wonderful mood stabilizer/seizure med just watch for rashes.
I do not know the full nature of your illness but I do not think it is too much but a work in progress that takes time. You have to take EXACTLY AS DIRECTED, NO MISSED DOSES AND CAN TAKE UP TO SIX WEEKS TO FEEL FULL EFFECTS. I have noticed after 3-7 days though.

Just to let you know - Klonopin can be extremely addictive. I had to be weaned off after only a few months of being on the drug. It started out with 5mg a day, but before I knew it, I "needed" about 10 times that amount! Please be careful.

Klonopin can be addictive yes, but it works and works good. People should not be afraid to use it. If you decide to stop taking Klonopin (clonazepam) talk to your doctor first and he can give you a dose reduction schedule to get you off of it safely and effectively. I had taken 0.5mg 2xdaily for two years. I told my doctor I wanted to quit the med and my dose reduction schedule was 0.125mg every three to four days until completely off it. It took some time but I did get off of it with no problems at at and now just use as needed.

Question/Comment:
I've been on bupropion (200mg twice daily) for around a year after trying various other antidepressants to no avail. Around three months ago, I had been taking the bupropion together with Lexapro (10mg once daily). Because I'm still fairly depressed, my psychiatrist has prescribed Abilify (2mg daily, may increase to 4mg daily) to take with the bupropion. In addition, I also take generic adderall (20mg three times daily), alprazolam (0.25mg three times daily, as needed) and sonata (10mg at bedtime when needed).
With the Abilify, what reactions or side effects should I be concerned about? Also, what is the possibility of weight gain? Since starting bupropion, it seems like I have been continuously gaining weight. I'm 5'8" pushing 190 lbs so I really, really don't want to gain any more.

You sound a lot like me. I'm on kind of the same combination of meds. Lamictal & Wellbutrin XL & Klonopin in the a.m. & Abilify & klonopin in the p.m. I usually only take the Klonopin 2x day as needed. I've read all of the interaction/side effect info., but I'm interested in the effectiveness of this combination. What are your results? I was put on this "cocktail" for bi-polar disorder, OCD & anxiety. Any input would be great.

Wellbutrin is a great drug that is completely different than any other ant-depressant on the market and how it works in your brain. If taken alone the major side effect is anorexia so I am 99.99999% sure your weight gain has nothing to do with this med.
The abilify does cause weight gain and is an ant-psychotic kind of like my Seroquel. The Lexapro is for anxiety, Adderall is for ADHD/narcolepsy, and Sonata for insomnia. I sounds like you have a lot going on for depression if that is your main or only problem. It seems strange to me that you would be on a drug that treats insomnia and narcolepsy?
This sounds like a strange mixture to me write down all your research and concerns for your dr and pharmacist if they seem not to know find some one that does.

If so, about how long did it take?
FYI-The bupropion is 100% better than the citalopram-I have more energy and am not falling asleep at my desk any more. Sex drive is back and mood is good. At your age it is even more important to get to know yourself and your body by doing the research, as it seems your off to a great start. Sit down and really think about the problems you are having and ask a therapist or counselor different ways to work them out before trying meds. Also, and sometimes this is even harder to do find all of your good qualities to draw on when you are experiencing signs of your illness.

wellbutrin is more than likely to cause weight loss than weight gain. My son has been on wellbutrin from age 7 . He is now 19 and is doing wonderful. Wellbutrin was a godsend. It is always good to look at the side effects because every one is different. The reason Wellbutrin hasn't been approved for children it has been used for years in children and the Pyschiatrist have had great success for this unapproved age and the manufacture doesn't want to spend the money to get this underage approval especially now it is generic.

They have had me on so many Meds for depression and I find that Welbutrin XL is been better than all of them for me. I take 150 mg each morning and it has been really good for me. Now if I am off it for so many days with a mess up on the refills not getting to me in time then I do feel a change in my moods and alot of people see a change in me also.
I have several meds I take in morning along with it and they are for anxiety, seizures, potassium and water pill. Also a Vitamin and Calcium tablets. I also have a nerve pill I take 3 times a day and it is Buspar for my nervousness.
And my night meds consist of Seroquel 200mg, Trazodone 100mg , Atenolol 50mg and Buspar 10 mg.
But I agree with you all about taking your medicines and how well they agree with you. And I been told it takes 2 weeks to get in your system after you start your medicines before you notice a difference.

So True. I was taking Seroquel for about 6 weeks when I stepped on a scale at our local Publix-I had gained 36 pounds. Luckily, I saw my shrink the next day, she immediately told me to discontinue it. I had a gastric bypass 5 yrs ago-so there was no way I could have eaten enough to gain that weight. She told me the number 1 issue with seroquel was weight gain. It took six months to get back to normal weight. Now I check all side effects to see if weight gain is on it. I still take my Wellbutrin XL 300 every day. When it was prescribed I was told it was good for weight loss...go figure. This seroquel issue was June 2007.

I started taking Wellbutrin, and about 18 days after starting to take it, it caused a skin reaction.
It was very itchy and raised swelling of the skin all over the body including the head. The Dr said to immediately stop taking Wellbutrin. A day after I stopped taking Wellbutrin the skin rash subsided.
Then the Pharmacist said that sometimes you can take the same medication and it might not have the same side effect, appon wich the Dr dissagreed. About six months later I started to take Wellbutrin again successfully without any side affects, and am on it now for 3,5 months now.

I have been taking Wellbutrin for over 5 years now, but for the past 4 years I have had a skin condition all over my body which had at first been diagnosed as granuloma annulare. Then the dermatologist noticed that my lymph nodes were enlarged so they thought I had lymphoma. I went for many tests and finally lymphoma was ruled out. Then it was thought that I had sarcoidosis and I was on Prednisone for several months. Then the Prednisone stopped being effective. Now one of my doctors thinks there might be a link to Wellbutrin. Has anyone else experienced a similar condition?
