Question/Comment:

Make sure you understand it takes quite awhile to get used to the injections! Also, it isn't like taking a pill where you notice a dramatic improvement the next day...it takes time to notice that the Avonex is having an effect. I still have symptoms of MS even though I am on the Avonex but I am hoping the Avonex keeps the MS from progressing.

Question/Comment:

I take it 2 times a week. I am terrified of each injection, but I know I have no choice. I might be totally disabled if I didnt take them for the last 3 years.

Question/Comment:

Make sure they have the CORRECT gauge of needle! I had the larger size to begin with and then found out, due to the smallness of my frame, I should have had the smaller needle! Large needle not as sharp, very thick, but LESS painful, than the smaller, shorter, sharper needle! and TRY to relax when the needle goes in! Or get someone else to inject you instead, but STILL TRY to relax! and sit up STRAIGHT!

Question/Comment:

Start therapy for your MS symptoms and progress, and stick with it! It can be difficult getting used to giving yourself an injection weekly, but look at it this way: worsened MS symptoms everyday--or Avonex once a week? That's all it took for me!

Question/Comment:

I take 500mg Naproxen ER with Avonex. It significantly reduces the Avonex side-effects. They hardly bother me at all with it. I just am tired the day after taking Avonex (I take it before bedtime)

26 year old Male

Question/Comment:

Do others have no side effects after taking Rebif most of the time, but then may have symptoms every so often of elevated temp (102), headache, nausea, muscle aches? Tylenol doesn't help me, though 800 mg of ibuprofen every 8 hours for 24 hours after injextion does seem to work. Is this typical?

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

I have been on Rebif 44mcg for 4yrs. since I was first diagnosed. I take 1 Aleeve at least 30 minutes before I inject the medicine with the Rebiject II injector. After injecting I go to bed. I have had very few side effects most of the time except for redness & some itching around the injection site for a few days. Sometimes I do experience headaches and tiredness the next day. I do believe, however, the risks of not taking the medication far outweight experiencing some of these somewhat annoying side effects. Hang in there. It has been worth it for me because I've had no progression of the disease. Some of the lesions on my MRI's have become smaller and almost gone. Also, I asked my doctor if Aleeve is better to take than Tylonol or is there any difference because I was concered about the medications & their effects on my liver. He told me that Aleeve is better because it doesn't effect your liver. I hope this has been a little encouraging for you. I also use Aloe Vera Gel with Novacane added to rub on my injection sites right after I take the injection. It helps a little bit with the pain of the injection. Stay on your medication; I know it doesn't work for everyone but talking with your doctor and asking questions is the best thing you can do. Have a good day and take care.
