I use Cardizem along with a diuretic and potassium. The combination works very well for me. Before that, I was having difficulty controlling my high blood pressure

Question/Comment:

That is hard since I take it for a reason that others will not. For Afib, there is nothing to advise. It does what it is supposed to do without much in the way of side effects (that I know of).

I have used this drug for 7 years of late I am having pain that goes and comes in the ankle and knee area. Also some swelling .

Answer/Reply:

apparently the post above was a while ago..but..cartia, which my husband has been on from a long long time, has started to cause his knees and ankles to swell, and hurt..alot.
so he has stopped taking until he sees the dr. another online site I found suggested that this is an "allergic" reaction to a med.
so, if anyone has any more info, Ill ck back. Oh, my husband is very overweight, & 69 years old..Not diabetic, no heart episodes so far, but he is on oxygen, at nite.

Question/Comment:

I was told by my doctor that a slight edema or swelling of ankles and feet are typical with diltiazem. However, I also have some dark skin discoloring below my ankle bone and wonder if this is also related to the edema and diltiazem. In the last several months I've had some numbness or tingling in my big toes. Are there circulation problems of this nature associated with this drug?

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

Some patients do complain of skin discoloration around their ankles with diltiazem. Although the numbness may be related to the swelling, it is worth having this checked out by your doctor to rule out other causes first.

Question/Comment:

I have been using Diltiazem for the last 3 years and have no such symptom, but depending on your dose, it could make you a little light headed, when you stand up quick.

Hope this helped :)

Question/Comment:

Does this drug cause chronic constipation?

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

No to me. But, if you have that problem try taking Activia yogurt, or other alike, daily, as I do.
