Find out what your daily needs are determined by your sex, age, and other factors. Then determine the amount you get from foods. Calcuim supplements should make up the difference.

Question/Comment:
I take 4 tablets of citrical daily (under doctor's advice) - used to take only 1 but am at risk for osteoperosis. I feel bloated, though I haven't gained weight, and have to take metamucil to avoid constipation, but never feel I have evacuated properly. Is this normal? After 3 months at this higher dosage am not feeling all that comfortable!

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:
Although regular use of calcium carbonate has been associated with an increased risk of bloating, alkalosis and kidney stones - especially when used at higher doses - it is commonly used on a near daily basis. That said, if you're experiencing symptoms that cause you to need an antacid every day, it would be worthwhile seeing your doctor to investigate your problem further.
