Question/Comment:

I used to take temazepam but my body and brain got used to it, and I only took it for about 1 month. My problem is my brain won't shut off at night it just keeps going and going, the doctor has me on clonazepan 1mg supposed to be one x3daily but I take 2 @ nite only, and Abien 12.5 mg with Wellbutrim 300mg. I still have a problem getting to sleep but if I take my med's about 8:00 pm I'm ready to sleep by 11/11:30, and I sleep all the way until about 4:30 or 5:00 but I feel refreshed like I really had a good solid sleep. No hang over or any other symptoms in the am. My brain used to go back to days of my youth or when I was around 27yrs old and doing my partying etc but never on one track it would jump from one subject to another within seconds it was really horrible, so I would have to stay awake until my brain ran out of power which would be about 3am had to go to work at 6am not good......

the above reply about the person that had to stop taking temazepam because her brain and body got used to it, well it says it was written by a 62 yr old male but it was not---- it was written by a 53 yr old female, just a small mis-calculation:>} :>}

Question/Comment:

I have been taken Temazepam for a while now just 15mg when needed, but I wake up during the night about 2 a.m. should I ask my doctor to up my doses? To help me stay asleep longer during the night!

43 year old Female

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

Yes, up it to 30mg. per night. I've been on all sorts of sleep meds and this one seems to be the one with the least sides. Been taking 30mg for years now following a start dose of 15mg. Good luck...

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

There are many things that can affect your ability to sleep such as stress and certain medical conditions such as restless legs syndrome, chronic pain, stomach or intestinal disorders, or hormone fluctuations. It is a good idea to let your doctor know that your medication is not working as well as before and discuss the options to treat your sleeping problems.

Answer/Reply:

yes. I found that 15 mg became completely ineffective, but after an increase to 30 mg I experienced immediate benefits

Question/Comment:

I have used Temazepam for 12 years, and I am 66 years old. For 5 years I used 30mg, but now I am taking 60mg. I have no side effects whatsoever. My sleep is the most important thing in the world to me. My doctor has told me that I can never go higher than 60mg, and I adhere to his order. Sometimes it takes more than an hour to 'kick in', but I am very happy with it. Why my sleep is the most important thing to me, is that if I do not have at least 6 hours of sleep all my other chronic diseases get worse.

Answer/Reply:

It must have a limit they can give out, because I take 30mg. I can take 2 of them and no more. He said it does not go any higher/since he said it is a controled drug which I have to sign for, it must be some kind of law. They don't always help me. I can take them, and still stay up to 3-4 in the morning. I'm afraid to try anything else, because most of your sleeping pills cause you to gain weight, and I have worked way to hard to get of the 78lbs. You are lucky you don't suffer from depression etc. I'm getting ready to come off my celexa so then maybe the sleeping pills will work for me like they do for you.

Hello, I had been given 30 mg of Temazepam and have to take 2 of them a night. I now have a new Dr. and she says that is way to much. For the average person that would be an over dose. She has put me on Lamotrigine just 50mg. too help me get off the sleeping one. In fact I now can only take 30 mg of Temazpam. I had suffered with depression for 14 years or more. I'm not on any thing for that anymore. We are trying to get my sleeping patterns in place and I will be off everything. Just be careful with such a high dosage. I found that at that dosage I cannot sleep most nights. I usually average about 4-5 hours of sleep a night.

I take temazepam 30mg about an hour before I go to sleep....most of the time I go to sleep with no problems or side effects. But other nights I can be awake for hours before it kicks in.
I have to sleep at least 8 hrs to feel normal in the morning. Need to discuss it with my dr. and see if I can up my doseage.

I have neen taking temazepam for about 3 years now, I am only on 15 mg, I also take mine about an hour before bed, sometimes I have falling asleep at my computer, other times I go to bed and am still awake about 3 hours later, I spoke to my Dr about it and she said that your body gets used to taking the sleeping pill and does not work all the time, without my pills I would be awake all night.

I was taking 60mg of Tamzapam, my Dr. took me off it slowly. Now I usually lay awake for the most part of the night. Last night I went to bed at 4:30 am was up at 7 am. What can I do? I can't sleep, and feeling really rotten. I go back to see my Dr. in Oct. I guess I will just have to wait it out. I do take one of them evey so often just to try to sleep after being up for 2 or 3 nights straight. I'm almost out tho.

Answer/Reply:

I too take temazepam 30 mg. I am 65 years old. I take it several hours before I go to bed. It does not put me to sleep, but helps me get 7-8 hours sleep. I take 2 tylenol PM about 15 minutes before I go to bed, and that is what puts me to sleep. I too wonder if they ever give more. Before my doctor sent me to my sleep specialist, he had put me on everything else. I also need 8 hours sleep to feel normal in the morning.

I take 60 mg of this med, and I still do not sleep very well. There are nights that it hits me good, and other nights don't sleep at all. My Dr. told me to add bendryl (1) which helps for the most part....

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

Restoril (Temazepam) is FDA indicated for the treatment of insomnia for a short period (7-10 days). Using this medication more than that time period may result in tolerance or dependance and eventually needing a higher dose to get the same effect. In people with long term sleeping disorder, it is a good idea talk with your doctor to find out if there are treatment alternatives that is suitable for you.

Question/Comment:

I have used Temazapam for a couple years for insomnia and find it works very well, and I have no side effects. Occasionally I have trouble falling asleep, but not too often. A surprising benefit was that it stopped my restless leg syndrome. I could not handle the medication normally prescribed for that. I recently tried Ambien and felt terrible the next day. The second night I did not sleep at all. I went right back to Temazapam.

69 year old Female

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

I am 65 years old and take Temazapam. Just replied to previous question, interesting it also stopped my restless leg syndrome. As I stated above I take 2 tylenol PM about 15 minutes before I go to bed, and that is what actually puts me to sleep. Temazapam is what keeps me asleep.

Answer/Reply:

actually ambien cr works the best for me, but the insurance will not allow me to use it for more then 2 wks. I really miss the stuff, I never had a problem with it. Temazepam 30 mg does not always work for me so they have me taking 1 or 2 benadrayls with it if I need too, but I hate taking too much medications.

Question/Comment:

I am currently taking Restoril 15mg. 1 per night. It does take me awhile to fall asleep so I am going to try taking it earlier. I have Fibromyalgia and once I do fall asleep, I get 6-8 hrs. of sleep. I am also going to try Ambien and see if it helps any better w/falling asleep faster.

50 year old Female

Question/Comment:

I have been taking it for a little over a month now, just 15mg, and it does seem to work. I still have a little trouble falling asleep and sometimes have very vivid dreams, but nothing really bad. I feel better in the mornings. When I don't take it I can tell I difference in the quality of sleep I get as I wake up tired and grumpy. I am thinking about asking my doctor if I could take a slightly higher dose and if it's safe to take every night. Right now it's "as needed" and I get 20 pills a month.

36 year old Female

Answer/Reply:

I was prescribed Temazapam for insomnia and anxiety, 30 mg at night, and it has worked like a charm for over a year. Since I work, I needed a full night's sleep every night and now I get it. Since it does interact with alcohol, I pretty much avoid drinking and my sleep is also much better. With alcohol I had very vivid dreams that were unsettling. Now I have few such dreams.

Question/Comment:

Before being prescribed Temazepam I was awake most of the night. My foot was constantly shaking. I have been taking it for about a month now and can sleep through the night and feel rested. It has no side effects for me. I do not feel hungover but instead well rested.
It takes about 15-30 minutes to work on me. So its very fast acting.

Question/Comment:

I have been on Temazepam for a while now. For me I take it about 1-2 hours before I want to go to bed. Usually about 9pm. It takes about 1-2 hours for it to kick in. I wish I could go back on ambien or ambien cr, but the ins. co will not allow me on it very long. (like who died and made them my dr). I do not sleep at all if I don't take anything for sleep. There are time when I feel druggie in the mornings, and times when I don't, but at lest it works for me.

Answer/Reply:

I find the most effective way in taking Restorial is to wait until I am beginning to become a bit sleepy to the point of feeling over tired or it is becoming somewhat late (in the wee hours). Speaking for myself, it will work within approximatey 30 minutes. Perhaps taking it at 9:00 (even though you'd like to go to sleep that early) is too soon for you - e.g. - your body is simply not ready to sleep yet particularly in light of your insomnia. I would guess that if it is not effective within the first hour, it is probably not working well, if at all, in the first place. The dose may be insufficient or your physician may want to try a different med. Just my .02

Question/Comment:

Have been using this sleep aid for 2 years and do get at least 6 hours of sleep almost every night. It does leave me groggy in the morning but a couple of cups of coffee clears that up. Works better than not having anything as I couldn't sleep over 3 hours before although I did that twice a day.

I used it for 6 years successfully - every nite - and then I reached a tolerance point and it only worked for 4 hours. Not enough sleep! Changed to lunesta. So far - so good.

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

I understand it wearing off over time. A switch is good. But Lunesta, you will find, is nothing but a scam. Even in its largest dose of 3mg. It will not be long before you're off it. Then go back to The Temaz. It will work like new again. Good luck..
