Global Patient Feedback for Diclofenac ( Post a comment )
Question/Comment:
When I started Diclofenac, I was also placed on Skelaxin. Before that they tried Flexeril. I do NOT find that Diclofenac really works much for me. I'm still in pain which is relieved by certain exercises and repositions, but not by this Medicine.

Question/Comment:
Like all the other users of Diclofenac, (Arthrotec), I too have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis and I have been taking this drug for about 14 yrs or more. I also have been seen by many doctors, and none of the medications for my mainly lower back pain, and now my knees have worked. But thank God for my present doctor for prescribing Dicolfenac for my osteoarthritis. I am 55 years of age and most of the time I feel, and sure looks like I am 30 yrs old. Hey that's what I've been told.
A feel great 55 yr old.

Answer/Reply:
I started taking diclofenac potassium after Vioxx went off the market and I had tried all other name brand pain reliever meds and none of the others worked. It helps me with my inflammation (possible Bechet's), severe cramping from PCOS and achy pain from Fribromyalgia. My doctor wants me to take it everyday I only take it as needed. I had taken a lot of other meds before we found this one that worked as well as Vioxx for the pain and inflammation.
Word of caution: A coworker was taking this with Lithium and a diuretic for high blood pressure and recently had to be hospitalized after appearing to have Parkinson like symptoms, when in actuality she was at toxic levels on her Lithium from the interaction of the 3 drugs.

I'm also 55 years old & have been diagnosed with Osteoarthritis. I've been taking Diclofenac for years, twice a day, but I don't know how well it works until I miss a dose! So I guess I would agree with you for the most part that it works well but I still have alot of pain, even taking it regularly. My knees are so bad, need replaced but doc says I'm too young :). Makes me think maybe it doesn't work so well. Maybe I need a stronger dose?? I currently take a 75 mg tablet twice a day. I think I used to take 50 mg. Guess I'll have to ask the doc about it. Just thought I would put my 2 cents in. I also took Vioxx & that worked better than anything I had tried prior to that but that was years ago so...who knows.

Question/Comment:
My physician put me on diclofenac 10 yrs ago for a back injury. I continue to have back problems and now have osteo and rheumatiod arthitis. In the last 10 yrs. I have had several different dr.s who have tried to switch me to other anti-inflamatory drugs. I think I have tried them all. Nothing works better than diclofenac. It has far surpassed any other pain medication in relieving my pain.I have had no side effects since I started taking it.

I think diclofenac is great. My doctor told me that it is better for an older person as it does not effect the kidneys as much as IBU and others. I am scheduled to take 1 twice a day and usually only need one.

I have been taking Voltaren for 17 years now from a very serious car accident. Many different places on my body were injured, and without this medication, I am like a 90 yr old woman. I have no side effects, and it works far better than other drugs like Celebrex for me.

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:
Also been on Voltaren for about 15 yrs. for rheumatoid arthritis and recently developed tinnitus (ringing of the ears). Have heard NSAIDs could have this side effect. Anyone else had this problem? Dr. has taken me off Voltaren for a time to see if problem improves, but the joints have not been happy about it. So I'd say it helps my pain and the jury's still out on the tinnitus.

Question/Comment:
I notice the difference if I miss a dose. I have been taking one diclofenac (Arthrotec) in the am and one in the pm for about 10 years now. If for any reason I run out or forget to take my meds until mid day, I am in deep trouble. I get stiff and really hurt. I have a bad case of Osteoarthritis in all my joints. I need two knee replacements, and my left hip is quite inflamed. I am only a 68 year old young female and very active and refuse to give up, so my meds are a must.

I delayed my knee repacement too long and finally realized diclofenac is too risky for me. Four weeks ago I had a total knee replacment (only one at a time pr my well known surgeon).
Should have done it long ago. No more knee pain and no more diclofenac!

Question/Comment:
I have been using Diclofenac for over 3 years for osteoarthritis in my upper and lower spine, shoulders, and knees. If I use it b.i.d., I experience little or no discomfort. But if I miss a full day, I pay for it with severe pain in all those areas. I am very pleased that my doctor prescribed it and would hate to be without it.

Question/Comment:
I have been taking diclofenac for over six years and it really helps me with pain and inflamation of the joints. I have severe arthritis in the knees and hips. I really know it if I forget to take it. As the years pass, I've had to increase to take it twice a day, once at bed time and once in the morning. It never has interacted with my other meds. and I have five others.
The only side effect is that you must take it with food or you will get nausas and/or dizzy,
but a couple of saltines take care of that.

Question/Comment:
I first started taking Voltaren about 8 months ago for my planter fasciatis. I had horrible side affects after the very first dose. Dizzy, sick to my stomach, and just didn't feel right. I quit taking it immediately. Then my foot pain got to be so unbearable that I decided the pain was worse than the side affects. I started back up about 6 mo. later and it worked great (no side affects except kinda sleepy) but about after 1 month of taking the medication, it doesn't seem to help my foot pain anymore. Not sure if it's the medicine or my foot just getting worse. I'm a little worried about the long term affects of the medicine.

I HAVE RSD OR CRPS AND I USE THE GEL FOR THE VERY PAINFUL SPOTS ON MY ARMS AND LEGS. I TRIED THE PILL BUT NOTHING. THE GEL SEEMS TO DO A PRETTY GOOD JOB BUT WITH HAVING RSD NOT MUCH WORKS VERY WELL ANYWAY. I TAKE 1000MG OF OXYCONTIN DAILY SO WITH THAT MUCH PAIN MEDS I STILL HAVE PAIN THAT REGISTERS 10 ON THE SCALE. SO FOR THE GEL TO EVEN GIVE SOME RELIEF IS FABULOUS.

I have been taking Diclofenac for one year but about 1 month ago I started expereincing rapid heart rate and shortness of breath after taking a new refill of my medication by a different manufacturer of the medicine. I took the medicine to the pharmacy and they gave me another refill by the original manufacture that I had been using but I am still experincing palpatations and shortness of breath. Has anyone else experienced complications with this drug like I have?

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:
I've taking voltaren for the last ten years for arthritis and back pain. So far so good with yearly liver test. I have experienced the same symptoms plus constant ringing in my ears. However, shortness of breath is not one of them. I am concern with the side effects of long term use (strokes, heart attack...) I notice that stretching and exercise alleviates the symptoms and I started to reduce my doses by half. Good luck.

I've been taking voltaren for over a year for carpal tunell syndrome and it doesn't work. I can't take any tylenol or advil with this medication when I get a headache because of interactions with the medicines. So on days I know that I might get a headache I don't take voltaren. I will tell you this it works wonderfully for my achilles tendonitis!

Question/Comment:
i use the gel version often to elininate the pill because I am hoping it does not affect the stomach and inner tracts which diclofenac /voltaten pills seem to have as a side effect. The gel is not available in the USA and has to be ordered overseas where is tis readily available without prescription and in most local pharmacies. It works by rubbing into the skin around the pain areqas ans swelling. I have not seen any problems after once a day applications over a year.
