Question/Comment:

I've been taking Seroquel for about 9 years. Since then I have developed periodic high blood sugar, thyroid problems, cholesterol, high blood pressure, seizures & dramatic weight gain. I have been on as much as 700mg per day. I still don't sleep well. My legs tremble & shake & make it difficult for me to rest. I suffer from nightmares and night sweats every day of my life. I've been trying to get off this drug for 2 years. I'm down to 100 mg at bedtime. I have tried going without it altogether, and the withdrawals are nearly unbearable. I will go for 3-4 days without sleeping at all. I wish I had known these side effects 9 years ago. I feel like I'm being held hostage by this drug.

Answer/Reply:

Maybe you could try another medicine besides Seroquel. There are quite a few newer ones out now since Seroquel. Like Abilify. Does your Dr. know you're going through all of those side effects? I would definitely try to change the Seroquel.

Answer/Reply:

I too have been on seroquel for years, and there was a time when the dosage was high. I hated the weight gain. I eventually brought down my dosage to 100 mgs. at bedtime. I understand completely what you mean when you say you feel like a hostage to this pill. Every time I try to go off of it completely I can NOT sleep. sigh Maybe someday.

Answer/Reply:

It takes time for the medication to be built up in your system. Give it three weeks and the drowzy side effects will disappear.
