Global Patient Feedback for Overactive Bladder ( Post a comment )
Question/Comment:
I took Ditropan for a while back in 2006 and it only made me have a hard time when I went to urinate. Then I went to a specialist and he did a test at the hospital and said I had a kinked bladder. He did surgery and I have the same problem now that I had then when I wake up at night and feel the urge to go I stand up and it all just comes streaming down my legs and it does that until it is finished. I have no control over my bladder. This happens during the day if I put off going to the bathroom at all.

Question/Comment:
I got violent genital herpes in â85: was like cauliflower from navel to crotch to buttocks; in hospital 3 wks! It led to bodywide, worsening nerve damage/pain, neurogenic bladder & a hermitâs life nearly handcuffed to a toilet 24/7. I got a drug in 1990 & gained 75lbs; that didnât help. In â98, finally got Detrol (Oxybutinin) & life improved for a bit. In 2008, an arrogant Urologist switched my Detrol to Vesicare; Iâm back at square one again: only much worse! Stay w/what works or youâre ruined. Iâm 53 & havenât dated since 1986, now I doubt Iâll ever have a happy, love-filled life before I die.

Answer/Reply:
My son take ditropan with Vasopressin together. The vasopressin controls the ADH hormone from being release. In other words it holds off the production of urine for 8 hours. Taken together his bladder has an increased flexibility and he is not producing so much urine for and 8 hour window. This works well for him.

Answer/Reply:
Besides taking medication for overactive bladder, it is equally important, perhaps more important to watch your diet.
I've been following the Interstitial Cystitis diet, and it has made a big improvement in my condition.
I don't drink any caffeine at all . . I've completely eliminated chocolate, citrus, cranberry juice and most spices from my diet.
I suggest you check out the IC diet . . they have a website, and try to follow it as best you can. You may be surprised at how much better you can feel by eliminating certain foods.

Is Detrol La supposed to correct my problem of having to get up at night two or three times to urinate?

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:
Detrol LA is FDA-approved for treatment of overactive bladder with the following symptoms:
1) having a strong need to urinate with leaking or wetting accidents (urge urinary incontinence)
2) having a strong need to urinate right away (urgency)
3) having to urinate often (frequency)
Hopefully it will help you with your night time symptoms of frequent urination.

I'm having some memory loss problems. does Oxbutynn contribute?

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:
Memory loss is not a commonly reported side effect of oxybutynin. However, if you think that oxybutynin is causing this side effect, it may be worth a chat with your doctor.

Answer/Reply:
I had horrible memory loss problems with ditropan. I would forget where I was going and what I was doing. I was an unsafe driver on the stuff. I felt these horrible side effects were not worth the benefit! People should know that these are possible side effects.
