Question/Comment:
I think a problem with this medication is that your system gets used to a dose very quickly (ie tolerance) and that you have to go to higher doses to achieve the desired result. The problem with this is that at the higher doses I seem to become more restless and certainly do not sleep much at all. What I have found effective is to stop taking the medication entirely for about 10 days after about 30 days of meds, and then starting back at the lower dose. The Drug holiday dreams are amazing.

Question/Comment:
I am 35 years old and was diagnosed with ADHD approximately 2 months ago. My doctor prescribed Vyvanse and I love it! As someone who ate a lot due to depression and anxiety, I love how it suppresses my appetite. I have lost about 30 pounds so far! I feel like the fog has been removed from my brain. I was started at 30 mg for a week and then raised to 60mg a day. I do get cotton mouth, but it's not hard to deal with. I am able to focus and actually have energy to exercise now.

Question/Comment:
My son is 8 years old and has been taking Vyvanse 20 mg daily for 3 months. It's positives are tremendous and have made all the difference in the world for him in school and have helped at home as well. I can't say enough good things about vyvanse though I am concerned about the affect it has on his appetite. I have to monitor him EXTREMELY closely and BE SURE he eats and I mean I am like PUSHING food on him constantly to be sure because it has really suppressed his appetite and when he is hungry he just gets so focused on whatever it is he is reading, playing, writing or doing he forgets to mention it. He is not a child that has ANY weight to spare and he is at a crucial growth period and will be for many years so I am also giving him carnation supplemented with Vit d milk and really giving him all the food i can as often as I can. Before he started vyvanse he had really started to finally become a good eater, his appetite was ferocious so I knew immediately that the vyvanse had affected this and this must be why it warns it cann affect their growth. If he did not have it, however the school may not have let him continue because his outbursts were often. He has adhd and an anxiety disorder which causes him off of meds to get very overwhelmed and he "melts down" over every little thing and he couldn't/wouldn't be able to sit and write for anything. Now he chooses to and enjoys it. He can't wait to do his homework, takes pride in it and goes the extra mile, is making friends and the teachers say he is a model student. It's a hard spot to be in to have to keep him on it, but i will just keep making sure he gets his nutrition, calories etc. and keep the vyvanse so he can learn and have a "normal" social life. The other thing is it does tend to cause him to rub his lips excessively, but by bringing it to his attention and helping him realize it we have almost got him to be able to beat that. He also rubs his fingers intensely and we are still working on that one. Hope this helps you! Your right there is not enough info.

Question/Comment:
I am a 43 year old woman who was diagnosed with Adult ADD last September. I was first on Adderall XR... The first month, I was okay. The second month, I got such violent headaches, I needed Vicodin to get rid of them. So reluctant to take anything, in fear of the same side-effects, I didn't ask my doctor to prescribe something new for nearly six months. He then told me about Vyvanse.
I started at the low dose and it worked well for about two months and wore off...no side effects! then he bumped me up to 20mg...that worked for two months and wore off...no side effects! Now on 50 and am doing extremely well...each dose helped me become more of a complete person and the 50mg seems to be the perfect dose for me.
Looking back to through my life, I can see how I had ADD but was not born during a time where it was recognized....
Since increasing to the 50mg dose, I was able to read a novel in three days, something I had not been able to do in years...finish 95% of a big crossword puzzle in 45 minutes, also something I had not been able to do in many years...
I am doing fine with no known side effects from Vyvanse! I highly recommend it!

Answer/Reply:
UPDATE: I am now on 70mg! I was in a car accident in November and I am beginning to think that the concussion I sustained did something to me enough to render 50mg virtually useless...
yesterday was my first day on the 70mg dose and I feel very encouraged!
I will keep everyone posted!
