Question/Comment:
I stared menopause at about age 35 and really did not want to take any hormones. I suffered through many horrible hot flashes. When I turned 48 I started having trouble with intercourse. It really hurt. I eventually was put on premarin cream .625. This enabled me to have sex without pain and minimally helped with the hot flashes. I have had spaces of time where I didn't have the flashes, but they keep coming back. Sometimes I get so sick of them that I am tempted to get on more hormones.

I too have been taking Premarin for many years... 16 years and plan on taking it for the rest of my life.... I am 65, wear size 6, feel and look great and really believe in the importance of Quality of life!

I am a 75-year-old woman and look as if I am in my early 60's. That is what everyone tells me. No one can believe I am this age. I had a hysterectomy (ovaries intact) when I was 40 and started taking Premarin when I was 48 and still am on it. At first I started on a higher dose, but now I take 0.3 mg every other day and I feel wonderful. I wear a size 8, do not have any serious health problems. When I have blood and urine workups everything comes back normal,except for my cholesterol which is a little high. I go dancing every Friday, do all types of dancing and wear heels. Since I feel and look so good I really think it has to be the Premarin and will continue to take it.

I am a 70 year old female. I had a hysterectomy in 1984 and started taking Premarin .625 shortly after. I took it for over 20 years until new studies claimed it could cause more problems than it prevented. Within a year of stopping Premarin I could not tolerate intercourse with my husband. The vaginal area was tearing and bleeding. None of the creams helped. As sexual intercourse is a very important part of our lives, I chose to go back on Premarin.

I had ovarian cancer at 17 and had to have a total hysterectomy. I have been on premarin 2.5 ever since. i am now 25 years young. i have had no problems---the doctor assures me that in my case the benefits DEFINATELY out weigh the risk involved in not havinga hormone replacement.

Hormone replacement is a very individualized decision between the patient and their doctor. While there are some significant benefits, there are also risks and side effects to consider. You should continue to have ongoing discussions with your doctor to determine if estrogen replacement is right for you.
