Question/Comment:

I have had serious bladder infections for years and by using this as a low dose maintenance they have gone away. I am a 72yr old active female who is happy to get this under control.

Question/Comment:

Can Bactrim cause vision problems? I was on it for a UTI about a week and began having problems reading as the lines began to run together. I also suddenly became very weak for a few hours one day. My blood work after these episodes shows I now have mono. I have no symptoms of mono. Could this also be due to this medicine?

iGuard Answer/Reply:

Bactrim does not usually cause vision problems or mono. Perhaps it was due to the infection or perhaps there is even another issue going on. It would be a good idea to make an appointment with an eye doctor to get a full exam, where they look at your retina and can be certain that there is nothing else going on. It could be that you need reading glasses, or perhaps a stronger prescription.

Question/Comment:

I am a 52 year old female and I have taken Bactrim DS ( every day)for over 4 years because of Kidney Reflux. I was in the hospital in Feb. 2006 with a kidney infection, and finally after 5 days and lots of tests, the doctors diagnosed the kidney reflux. The Urology doctor put me on the Bactrim DS at that time and said I would be on it for the rest of my life. Has anyone ever heard of this? And what kind of bad things are happening to my insides (from using the Bactrim), that I do not know about. What else can I do? I what to get off of the Bactrim, but my doctor says no. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Question/Comment:

can bactrim cause diarrhea?
if so, can active culture yogurt help stop it?

41 year old Female – Source: iGuard United States

iGuard Answer/Reply:

Bactrim can cause diarrhea. Yogurt with active cultures will help to restore the balance between "good" bacteria and "bad" bacteria in the intestines. Restoring the balance can decrease the severity of the diarrhea.

Member Answer/Reply:

Don't settle for a yogurt, go get a broad spectrum pro-biotic, with at least 5 billion active cultures. Taking probiotics during antibiotic treatments is so important.
