Question/Comment:
Doc gave me about 5 days worth of samples after he suspected dyspepsia. I was to take these until my endoscopy appointment. I took one and within an hour began to feel doped up and I hated it! I researched on line about this drug, and became very afraid to continue. I have a history of anxiety problems and this drug just was not for me. I'm on Librax now and having no problems other than bloating. Reglan scared me.

Question/Comment:
My son takes Reglan or its generic for his slow gastric emptying. He has been taking this since he was 3 years old (he is now 11) He has been on as many as 4 doses a day .. now once a day. He has not had any side effects. He was taking it with Pepcid and another medication to make him hungry. (He was not eating due to reflux and the fact that food was staying in his stomach too long.) Now he takes it with Pepcid and Ritalin (he has ADHD). Hope this helps.

Question/Comment:
The drug Metoclopram substituted for reglan. What are the side affects and why are lawyers on TV wanting to take cases for this? I have never taken much medicine and have severe reactions from most and this scares me. Please advise. I have been diagnoised with Barrett's Esophagusal.

iGuard Answer/Reply:
Typically Reglan or its generic, metoclopramide, can cause mild side effects including headache, nausea, and diarrhea. In some rare cases Reglan could cause Parkinson's like syndrome, seizures or other more serious or fatal reactions. These reactions are very rare, and you should discuss your concerns with your doctor.

Question/Comment:
Re: Reglan - - My wife has had chronic abdominal pain, on/off for at least the last 12 years. She has gone to Mayo in Rochester,MN and the U.of M. in Mpls, MN, but to no avail. When we lived in Marshall, MN,which was closer to Sioux Falls, S.D., she underwent every test imaginable to find out what was wrong. Her gastrologists are still trying to ferret out the answer. She has undergone removal of her Appendix and her gall bladder, when she was wrongly diagnosed with "Billiary Dysconesia" (sp.) At one time she became so dependent on heavy duty pain killers that she became "drug seeking" in order to tolerate the condition. She became "hooked" on several narcotics and needed to go through a pain control clinic which treated her conditions wholistically, by concentrating and "transforming" her symptoms(mind, heart, body, spirit). Through hypnosis/PT, /rehab/ and a lot of group sessions including therapy
w/biofeedback, and some assistance from the "pain cocktail" she took each day for 2 weeks, by the grace of God and a lot of talented and caring physicians/psychologists/therapists, etc. she managed to "kick" her dependence on narc. meds. However, I digress; you will excuse my rambling. As part of her treatment she was put on Reglan and told it was to help her stomach empty faster, and to regulate her digestion of foods she ate. She also was diagnosed with IBS and some symptoms of GERD. I have, unfortunately, been hearing/seeing more and more on TV and the internet that the FDA is seriously considering pulling this drug off the market, and the damage reimbursement lawyer teams are chomping at the bit! I wish she did not have to take Reglan, as she is also on several other meds for gastric problems, as well as Amytriptalene for depression. I hope and pray she will be able to regain her "old self" and get back to doing the things she truly enjoys in life! She is only 56 yrs. old, and truly enjoys her job as an R.N.
