Question/Comment:

Once again, as I have posted with other medications that I have taken, I shall attempt to put my two cents in. The best thing a patient can do is to ask their doctor three questions: 1. What side effects can this medication cause? 2. what potential interactions can it have with my other medications? 3. will the potential benefits outweigh the risks? If your doctor is unwilling to answer these questions, then it may be time to search for a new one. Also, even if the doctor does answer these questions, I would recommend getting a PDR, or going to RXList, and informing yourself. This is the best way to avoid problems with medications.

Question/Comment:

I am not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but I am running out of option. I have Psoriasis on my scalp, skin, an under my nails and toenails. I have taken the Terbinafine for 3 months and I use the Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream. I have been using the cream now for a year. I am not seeing any changes, except to the scalp, an that is hard to put the cream on because of my hair. I tried all the shampoo's, even the the one's by my doctor an no help. One thing I need to know is: Are you suppose to scrap the loose scales off, or let them fall off on there own? Which if you have psoriasis you know it is very ichy. And is there other things you can take or do to help with Psoriasis?

iGuard Answer/Reply:

It is recommended that you not rub the areas vigorously, as that can cause the psoriasis to spread. A variety of light therapies are available to treat psoriasis. It can be difficult to penetrate the hair to get to the scalp. Sometimes methotrexate is indicated for cases that are resistant to other treatment. Methotrexate is a chemotherapy agent and should not be taken if pregnancy is an issue or concern. Speak with your physician about the options still available to you.

Answer/Reply:

Do not take the drug Methotrexate. My mom almost died using this medication. She was diagnosed with have nodule tumors in her lungs...aka cancer. Only one doctor out of many was able to figure out that the medication was causing this problem. She stopped the meds and the nodules disappeared. I would have hated to see my mom go through unnecessary chemo...very scary. Methotrexate is a lethal drug. Had she continued to take the meds she would be dead!

Shortness of breath is a serious symptom and you should contact your doctor and seek medical attention right away if you experience this side effect. In general the terbinafine should not cause this side effect.

Answer/Reply:

Hi
I am currently experiencing almost complete taste loss from Terbinafine and I'd be really interested to know a bit more about your experience if you didn't mind.
How severe was your loss of taste?
Was it all food types?
Any tips on getting food down - I am really struggling and can only eat a very few mouthfuls?
Did your taste return gradually (I've heard you might start to be able to taste (say) sweet but not bitter foods first?
Any advice or thoughts most welcome - this is horrid! Thank you

iGuard Answer/Reply:

Typically patients will recover their taste within several weeks after stopping the terbinafine. There have been some reports to the manufacturer by patients who have lost their sense of taste for over 1 year. If your symptoms persist you should discuss them with your doctor.
