I gained about 20 lbs. on Cymbalta, but it is one of the only two (the other being Effexor) drugs that help me with my depression and anxiety without any other, more serious side-effects (but I am sensitive to drugs...).

Question/Comment:

Cymbalta levels may be affected by your KIDNEY PROBLEMS

This is what I found in my alert page for this drug. So spongeatic kidneys (and the stones) effect the proper job of the cymbalta I take everyday. I take 120 mgs a day--two capsules--at night.

Why would the two interact and how does my kidney problems effect the cymbalta?

Question/Comment:

I've been on 60 mg Cymbalta for 3 months with no side effects. Changed from Prozac (needed nap in the PM) to Effexor (no tiredness but maxed out dose) to Lexapro (worked well but Doc suggested Cymbalta's due to its pain control abilities). Not sure it's done anything for my pain. Weaning off Effexor was very difficult - I felt awful.

Also take Ultram. Last week I had 2 days of tremors I stopped drugs for a day & the tremors stopped. Have had tremors before on other antidepressants.

Question/Comment:

I'm scared and need help. Depression has been horrific. Doctor just started me on 30g cymbalta (supposed to up to 60mg in 1 wk). after just two doses I had such severe diahhrea and nausea -- felt weird in general. Slept in only 20 min increments. Resident at pain clinic (only one avail this wknd) said to stop taking it for 2 days, then try again. Don't know what to do. HELP!

I would like to offer some insight on taking depression drugs. It takes at least 10 to 14 days to actually feel the effects of the drugs. So you may need to just continue them until the 10 to 14 days has passed. I have been on several anit-depression meds and Cymbalta has been the best for me. I feel like myself on them as I did see a difference when I was on several of the other meds. So please give them time to work. Speak to your doctor, you should never stop taking the meds unless the doctor has told you too. The reason as you may have problems just by stopping them. I hope this helps and I hope you find some relief as I kinow depression can destroy you and your family. God Bless and Be strong.

I've been nauseous and had other side-effects when first starting a drug several times, and they usually wear off after a few weeks; your body adjusts. It can be tough, but if the end result is that you feel better emotionally and can function better, it's worth wading through. If you still feel awful after a few weeks, then I'd say you may not have the right drug for you. Good luck!
