Question/Comment:

is it safe to take coq10 & omega 3 6 9 with plavix

Female Source: iGuard United Kingdom

iGuard Answer/Reply:

Fish oils can cause increased risk of bleeding and in combination with Plavix it could be even more troublesome. Make sure your physician knows you are taking all of these medications. If your doctor wants you to continue these medicines, you may need increased monitoring. Also, please follow up with your doctor right away if you have any signs of bleeding, including bruising, nose bleeds, dark bowel movements, or abdominal pain.

Question/Comment:

I have been taking Plavix for about six and half years. I also take low dose aspirin. Six and half years ago I had carotid artery surgery, stents put in for my legs in 1999 and had a triple bypass in 02/2009 after Dr. finding blockage. I have had no problems with Plavix. After all this I am staying on the Plavix.

Answer/Reply:

I have GERD. The doctor has recommended Prisolec for the heartburn which I am encountering. Does Prisolec interact with Plavix which i have been taking along with a low dose aspirin.

89 year old Female – Source: iGuard United States

Answer/Reply:

Yes, go on the computer and look it up, I was having some digestive problems and a doctor precribed prisolec for my heartburn and indigestion. first of all the prisolec lable tells you not to take it more than two weeks, and then I looked up on the computer to find out how it would effect my plavix and it wasn't a good thing. Prisolec will lessen the effects of the plavix and my plavix and aspsrin is more important than the prisolec. So I stopped it right away. Adjust your diet to help.

63 year old Female – Source: iGuard United States

iGuard Answer/Reply:

Prilosec may decrease the effectiveness of Plavix in your body. Prilosec interacts with the enzyme that activates Plavix in the body, causing it to not be activated. This interaction was only recently discovered and is currently being researched to decide the severity of the interaction. Some research suggests the combination of Prilosec and Plavix needs to be avoided, and some research suggests that the interaction may not be clinically significant. Either way, you need to make sure your doctor has a complete list of your current medications, and you need to specifically ask about the possibility of an interaction between Plavix and Prilosec.
