Question/Comment:

Two weeks after my first dose of Boniva I broke out in hives.I have had food allergies in the past and thought that they had returned.I took boniva for 3 more months.I was still breaking out in hives and still thinking it was the food that I was eating.I made an appointment with my allergist and had food allergy test taken and I was not allergic to the food. The allergist/immunologist determined that it was the Boniva and to quit taking it and I have done that.I am now waiting for it to get out of my system

Question/Comment:

I took Boniva for two months and experienced back pain so bad that I couldn't do anything for two days after I took it. All I could do is take pain medication and sit with a heating pad on my back to get rid of the pain. I stopped taking it and am now waiting to see my doctor to try Fosamax.

Question/Comment:

I took Boniva for about 2 years. It did it's job......I was told my bone density had improved greatly. Then about 5-6 days after a dose, my jaw started hurting when I widely opened my mouth. It progressively hurt more for awhile, started to make a little clicking noise, and then very, very slowly the pain started to diminish and the noise went away also. I am wondering if I can ever take this drug again? Does it cause permanent damage? I would like to have more info from the manufactorer, but have been unable to find any. Is there a way to get more info to understand the reason for the problem and what to expect? Any answers would be appreciated. Thanks.

iGuard Answer/Reply:

Jaw pain has been associated with medications like Boniva and as well as other rare but more serious conditions of the jaw. It is best for you to follow up with your doctor and dentist to discuss your symptoms. They will be able to determine the cause of your jaw pain and jaw clicking noise.

Roche/Genentech makes Boniva - they host a website for Boniva: www.boniva where you can search for information or you can contact them by phone to ask your questions: (800) 821-8590
