Question/Comment:
I am a 45 year old on Simvastatin and I have been experiencing muscle pain and spasms all over my body could that be from the medicine? it hit's me in the calves of my legs and in my sides and stomach

Question/Comment:
When I take Simvastatin, I have tinkling and muscle spasms & cramps in the calves of my legs, as well as in my feet so badly that I can't get a decent night's sleep. I must constantly massage these areas with a good "pain rub" (such as Flexall 454, Zero Pain, etc) all night long. Also, it makes my legs "go to sleep" without my even knowing it, and when I stand up from sitting or lying, sometimes I fall down immediately, unexpectedly. So far, haven't hurt myself badly in the falls, but feel that it could happen just anytime!
Really messes up my rest and sleep, so I decided that "quality sleep/rest" was as important as lowering my cholesterol, and quit using it about 9 days ago! The muscle spasms stopped completely after about 48 hours. I REFUSE to go back on that "stuff". As Nancy Reagan said, "Just say no!"

Question/Comment:
Would muscle pain be generalized or could it simply be one muscle? I started Simvatatin about a week and a half ago, and my left arm (biceps area) is very stiff and sore but only on the left side. All the rest of me feels fine. Should I be concerned? It's been about four days and still very tender and sore.

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:
You should report any persistent unexplained muscle ache(s) to your doctor and seek a medical evaluation as soon as possible, especially while taking any statin drugs. Muscle soreness could be caused by various conditions and your doctor will be able to determine its cause.

Answer/Reply:

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:
Simvastatin has not been reported to cause anxiety or panic attacks. If you are experiencing new or worsening panic attacks and anxiety, you need to talk to your physician about the underlying cause. Also, sometimes it helps to discuss the anxiety with a trusted friend or relative.
