Question/Comment:

I have been taking Nortriptyline for 16 years. I started out taking 10mg, which didn't do anything for me. I was having panic attacks quite often at that time. My doctor upped my dosage several times over the years, but its effect seemed to wane over the years. I am currently taking 2/ 50mg capsules at bedtime and 1/ 60 mg capsule of Cymbalta at lunch every day. I didn't really have any side effects from the Nortriptyline, but since I have been taking the Cymbalta I have terrible dry mouth, trouble sleeping, bouts of constipation, and sometimes an inability to concentrate.

Question/Comment:

I have be taking Nortriptyline for about 5 months now for pain and trouble sleeping. So far I have no complaints. I am under many other medications so it is hard for me to say what is causing what side effects. Although I was taking this med before I started a couple of my other meds. That being said, I don't think that the side effects I have now is related to Nortriptyline.

Question/Comment:

I started taking Nortriptyline and Midrin for Migraines and originally they prescribed it to be taken and night. It helps with the migraines but I CAN'T SLEEP. It has the complete opposite affect on me. I was up until 2 or 3 am every night for 2 weeks. I called the doctor and we switched it to morning and it's been awesome. I'm alert all day and have only had a few migraines in the past month as opposed to a migraine that lasts 3 - 4 days at a time.

Question/Comment:

The person with the problem with Pamelor. I was on 100mg and I told my doctor I had too many side effects and I thought it might be too much. He reduced my dosage to 85mg. 1 75mg. and 1 10mg. he said to let him know if that was too much he could cut it some more. It is a shame doctors don't take the time to discuss these things with patients. If I didn't have a wonderful pharmacist - I would be sunk. 71 yr old female
