Question/Comment:

I am suffering from constipation. Would this have anything to do with the introduction of gucosamine/chondroitin capsules into my diet? I have noticed the relief in my aches in only one week. I was prescribed an anti inflammatory drug by my gp but did not want to take it because of the risk of ulceration in my stomach so glucosamine seems the answer.

At the same time as introducing glucosamine I started drinking green tea in favour of my usual tea with soya milk. As soya is bean and that would introduce fibre into my diet, is the absence of that which is causing the constipation, or is it the introduction of glucosamine?

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

Constipation is a common side effect of glucosamine. If it is helping with your aches, perhaps incorporate more water and fiber into your diet. The soy milk should be fine to continue drinking as well.

If the constipation continues and you still want continue glucosamine, you can ask your doctor about other options to help with the constipation.

Answer/Reply:

I have been taking glucosamine for about 10 yrs and I have not noticed any constipation.
Perhaps something else is causing it.

Question/Comment:

Since I've started taken it, I can really tell the difference in my joints. In my opinion, it's definitely worth taking. I take only one a day.

Answer/Reply:

A year ago I could not take the steps or a stepladder. My Dr sent me to a specialist who gave me a steroid shot and told me to come back in 3 months and we would probably have to set up a date for surgery to replace the knee. A friend insisted I try the Glucosamine Condroiton which I started. I didn't go back to the specialist, checked in to my regular doctor and told her I wouldn't be needing him, and am living a normal life, even going up steps and ladders without pain or problems. It is a wonderful product and I'll keep taking one a day.

Question/Comment:

About 7 years ago I started playing softball after a 20 year layoff. Both my knees would have considerable pain after a game and one gave off a "popping" sound when I walked. After x-rays, the doctor told me that I had torn cartilage in one knee and both had arthritic build-up. After one cortisone shot treatment, I decided there must be something else besides surgery. I read about Glucosamine/Chondroitin and started taking it daily - triple strength 1500/1200mg. It took about 6 months before I noticed any reasonable difference and soon after that the pain disappeared along with the popping sound. Today I continue to play softball 4 times a week painfree. Not only in my knees but in my other joints as well. It works for me!

Information I read tells me that test show it does little good, so, I have decided to discontinue taking it.

Answer/Reply:

My Doctor put me on it triple strength 2times a day. It takes about 6 weeks of taking it faithfully before it works but it does work. I wasn't taking it strong enough in beginning and the Doctor corrected me. Good Luck

Answer/Reply:

Try
REPAIR by Enzymedica. You can find it online and in most health food stores. It works better than ANY pain meds and is nothing but anti-inflamnmatory enzymes. No addiction problems,,,,no concerns with mixing it with other necessary meds. It will give you a temendous increase in your quality of life. There are days I've taken 2 then there are days where I have taken 10. Amazing stuff!!!! I've taken it for almost 3 years now and have noticed that the longer I take it...the less I need each day. I take 2 the minute my feet hit the floor in the morning and to stay on top of any pain for the day. I've recommended them to numerous people and everyone just loves REPAIR.

Question/Comment:

I have spinal stenosis for nearly 18 years now, and had no cartlidge in either knee . I started using G C when my left knee got real bad and my right was close to it too. I had to have my left knee repalcedabout a year later, but went seven more years before replacing my right knee. Accupuncture was a Godsend for me. It took me from able to walk only about 8 minutes to almost two hours at one time, which of course caused my knees to go faster. I still use G C to this day.
