Question/Comment:

Based on my experience with nabumetone or Relafen, it's probably the best N-SAID for people with moderate to severe intestinal disorders such as Crohn's Disease. N-SAIDs all have the potential for stomach or intestinal distress, but Relafen seems to be less like to cause such problems or the problems seem to be less bothersome. It has always been effective in treating mild to moderate arthritis pain (I have osteoarthritis and enteropathic arthritis) for me. Your results may vary! Sorry, but I have found that drug effects are highly personal. But with people who have digestive tract problems and chronic joint pain, this drug can often be the lesser of evils.

Question/Comment:

I have been diagnosed with RA and Osteoarthritis, and have chronic pain. I lost the use of my hands due to very painful nodules on the joints in my fingers. I could not write or do any other daily function that had to do with detail dexterity.
Due to other health issues, some medications are not possible for me. I spoke to many of my doctors about my hands and they could not help.
I finally saw an expert who prescribed this medication and within 2 days the nodules started to decrease, within a week, I could not see them.
I have missed my dosage at night and in the morning the pain starts back and I can barely see the nodules but in my case, this medication brought me back the use of my hands.
There are side effects. Dizzyness, stomach problems, etc. but that is minor compared to the benefits to me.

Question/Comment:

I have RA, osteoarthritis, and have suffered for 2 years with severely painful nodules on my fingers on both hands. I lost all functioning in my hands such as wrting, holding anything or buttoning clothes, etc.
None of the drugs I take would help. I kept asking doctor after doctor for a solution. Until finally, I was sent to a specialist who prescribed this. Within 2 days, the inflamation was down in my hands. I am now able to use my hands for all daily tasks.
This drug has been a wonder drug for me!
The side effects are dizzyness, and stomache problems, but the benefits outweigh the side effects for me.

Answer/Reply:

This may sound like a drastic drug to use, but I'm only 27 years old and my doctor prescribes methadone for my back pain. I have scoleosis, fibromyalgia and six ruptured discs in my back. So I don't know if you have that much trouble with your back or not, but the Methadone does work miracles for me. Before I couldn't do much of anything at my age and it was really making me think that life wasn't worth living. Now I feel like a completely different person. I know Methadone gets a bad rap, but it truly has saved my life. Maybe you can talk to your doctor about it?

Answer/Reply:

I have both fibromyalgia and severe arthritis, and in addition to taking relefan I apply "Icy Hot" patches to my shoulders when the pain gets very bad. It's the patch advertised by the basketball player, Shaaq O'Neill. The other drugstore brands do not work. Get the x-large size for the back - it fits there as well as the shoulders. When my knees act up, I cut a patch in half that accommodates both knees. You can also snip off a piece to wrap around a swollen finger - it does wonders for about 8 hours. My friends also uses them for her hip pain. Good Luck!!
