iGuard Answer/Reply:
Bactrim can cause diarrhea. Yogurt with active cultures will help to restore the balance between "good" bacteria and "bad" bacteria in the intestines. Restoring the balance can decrease the severity of the diarrhea.

Answer/Reply:
Don't settle for a yogurt, go get a broad spectrum pro-biotic, with at least 5 billion active cultures. Taking probiotics during antibiotic treatments is so important.

Question/Comment:
I'm currently on Bactrim for a prostate infection and the side effects are driving me nuts. Soon after taking a dose, I feel nauseous, then really fatigued, at which point I usually go to bed and awaken every hour with night sweats. It makes my skin pretty hot and sometimes my heart is pounding and I feel very tight.
I also have some really weird dreams when I take this, most commonly it's information I've absorbed throughout the day being pounded and drilled into me like I'm repeating it as a mantra...really strange.
Also, this medicine makes me have to pee a lot more than my infection does. I'm on a 28 day treatment and supposed to take 2 a day but I can only take one or else it interferes with my work.
I'd rather be on nothing than take this medicine, it makes me feel worse.

I'm taking this to treat skin infection. I hate taking it though.

Question/Comment:
I was given this antibiotic for a life threatening staph infection. The initial dose made me vomit. I took it with orange juice (acidic) on an empty stomach which was probably not a good idea. All subsequent doses were taken with plain yogurt and milk followed with food. This helped keep it down. The side effects I experienced are profuse night sweats, restless sleep & nightmares. So I stopped taking it before bedtime. The night sweating continued but at least I could sleep. Other side effects are as follows; stinging tongue/taste reduced, headaches (some severe), skin sensitivity to sunlight, some rash (small bumps). On the upshot my open wounds are healing (no more discharge or swelling & no more pain) which was the objective... My advice while on this medication:stay in the shade get plenty of rest and don't take it before sleep.
