63 year old Male

Question/Comment:

I'm a 45 year old female, I had a heart implant because of a PFO since birth. I had some heart palpitations so the doctor put me on atenolol, it did not help. So he put me on Toprol XL, it has been great. No side effects or heart palpitations.

44 year old Female

Question/Comment:

I have been taking Metoprolol for about 3months on and off. My questions is does this med
cause vagicaine itch?

55 year old Female

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

Approximately 5 out of 100 patients taking metoprolol reported rash as a side effect. The manufacturer did not detail the location of the rash in their clinical reports. You should consult your physician and to discuss the vaginal irritation you are experiencing.

Question/Comment:

I find I am up all night now. Can't sleep. It started out a few years, just a few hours during the night, on and off, and eventually became all night long. I'm so tired! Tried all over-the-counters, but nothing works. Took Ambien, but not all the time. Don't want to be addicted to sleep medication. I did research on my meds, and have been taking Toprol about the length of time that the no-sleeping started. Found out a side effect is insomnia. When I spoke with the Doctors office about trying something else because of my insomnia, it was like a personal critism. Does anyone else have insomnia and are on Toprol XL?

67 year old Female

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

Toprol XL, or metoprolol, has a small chance of causing insomnia. From iGuard members and overall during clinical trials, the frequency of reports are about the same, less than 1% of patients taking metoprolol experience insomnia. Talk with your physician again about your insomnia to see if there is another underlying cause. You may want to ask your doctor to consider lowering your dose to see if there are any improvements in your symptoms.

Question/Comment:

I AM 72 YEARS OLD AND I HAVE USED METOPROLOL FOR THE LAST TEN YEARS AND HAVE NEVER HAD ANY SIDE EFFECTS. IT WORKS FOR ME REAL GOOD.
