Question/Comment:

I am taking this drug so that it will stop migrains. It's working. I am a lil tired and also my blood pressure is normal however my heart rate went low. 57 is the nuber it's resting at. How bad is this?? I am not used to feeling this sluggish.

30 year old Female – Source: iGuard United States

iGuard Answer/Reply:

A lowered heart rate is an effect of the propranolol. If your sluggishness persists or worsens you should discuss this with your doctor. Your doctor may consider lowering your propranolol dose and monitoring your migraines to see how well the lower dose controls your migraines and affects your heart rate.

Answer/Reply:

ALl I can say is I am resting at 57 as well and sluggish but I am functioning well. Just tired

Question/Comment:

i have taken propranolol to control my migraines for almost a year now. It is a blood pressure medication but it helps to alleviate the constriction of the blood vessels to allow smooth movement through them. I started taking it because i would get headaches constantly, on a daily basis. But now i dont really have that problem. Although ocasionally i do get migraines. But i take maxalt for that.

Answer/Reply:

hi,there.i was just prescribed today propanol for migraines.as i had them for the last year,do you think is worth taking them, and how is the side effects.im having party at the end of the month,do you think is wise to consume alcohol.thank you

29 year old Female – Source: iGuard United States

iGuard Answer/Reply:

If your migraines are severe enough then you may want to treat them with the propranolol. Drinking alcohol is generally not recommended as this may worsen some migraines and could have a possible interaction with the propranolol. You should discuss your additional concerns with the doctor who prescribed the propranolol.

Question/Comment:

I just started Inderal (supposedly given for some migraine headache pain). I understand this is for blood pressure too. I am already taking high dose of Diovan. Should I be concerned?

Question/Comment:

How many people have had weight gain on this medicine?

35 year old Female – Source: iGuard United States

iGuard Answer/Reply:

Less than 1% of iGuard patients taking propanolol reported weight gain as a side effect. Since weight gain is an undesirable side effect you should discuss your symptoms with your doctor.

Question/Comment:

I take propranolol for familial tremors. It works well when I cut back on my caffeine consumption.

62 year old Female – Source: iGuard United States

Answer/Reply:

I also take Inderal (propranolol) for Essential (Familial) Tremors. It works ok except in anxious situations (reunions, etc.), so even before they found that Inderal helped with ET, I had been taking Tranxene and Valium, I shook like a dancing dashboard doll on a brick road. Now I just take Valium PRN. Unfortunately though, I go on and off of the Inderal when I gain so much weight that I have no more clothes to wear and eating the same diet (a side effect of Inderal). I am at that point again, but having a harder problem getting the benzodiazipams'. I rarely drink caffinated drinks unless I'm about to fall asleep due to lack of sleep. I haven't had an alcoholic drink in 26 years or illegal drug.

So which is worse, being fat or staying home because I am shaking like a wet hound dog. My choice is neither, give me the benzo's. I've never let myself become addicted to them, slurred my words or taken too many to drive or walk funny. I know a lot about addiction.

Answer/Reply:

I also have ET (54 yrs) and I had DBS 10 years ago to help with the tremors. It's a scary brain surgery but it works. I take Inderal now for migraines. Am tired and try to exercise daily at a gym to keep the weight off. The surgery isnt a cure for ET but it's the best "fix" available...now, I take nothing for tremors, tho the Inderal probably helps there too.

66 year old Female – Source: iGuard United States

Answer/Reply:

I am taking propanolol for anxiety but it causes my blood pressure to go to low and sometimes I feel like I can't breathe when I take the prescribed dose. Benzodiazipams 'work very well on the anxiety and I function better ie: I can leave my house, go to the store and take care of my personal hygiene. No one will prescribe the Benzo's though.
I guess if they keep prescribing beta-blockers and other medications not normally used for anxiety I'll die trying to feel "normal".
