Question/Comment:

I have been taking Evista for over 10 years and have only had leg cramps once in a while. I've been on Levoxyl for over 20 years. I take it first thing in the morning and Evista at night. My last bone density scan was excellent for my age and height. My doctor is very happy with the results.

Female, age 70.

Question/Comment:

I have taken Evista for 2 years now. I felt it has caused weight gain mostly in the belly area, too. I sometimes get foot cramps and some leg cramps, but felt that is from the simvastatin that I also take. Could be both? First year had some bone increase, waiting results of current dexascan.

iGuard Answer/Reply:

Muscle cramps and weight gain are both possible side effects of the Evista. About 5% of iGuard patients report muscle cramps from Evista. Muscle cramps are also possible with the simvastatin. About 9% of patients taking Evista report weight gain. Weight gain is not a reported side effect of simvastatin. You need to discuss these side effects with your doctor and decide if these side effects outweigh the benefits you are receiving from the medications. You should not make any changes to your medications without talking to your doctor first.

Question/Comment:

I have taken Evista for 18 months now. I experienced hot flashes for several month shortly after starting the medication. I also developed severe leg cramps, which I just recently associated with the Evista. Also my breasts are very tender and sometimes even painful which started shortly after I began taking Evista. After discussing these problems with my doctor, I discontinued the Evista a few days ago.

Is there anyone having a problem with weight gain. I have just started taking Evista.

iGuard Answer/Reply:

Swelling of the legs, hands and feet have been reported by patients who take Evista. This swelling could cause weight gain. If your weight gain is excessive or continues you should discuss it with your doctor.

Answer/Reply:

I have a weight gain of almost 20 pounds, and almost entirely in my stomach area. I feel constantly bloated and a lot of my clothes no longer fit comfortably. I have been taking Evista for about 5 months.

Question/Comment:

I have just been taking Evista for about 30 days and the only side effect that I have noticed is constipation. Never had the problem before taking this drug and have not changed anything else. I am pretty healthy overall, but have taken levoxyl for about 5 years with no problems. Workout 30 minutes a day on treadmill and with weights. Don't like taking drugs, but dont want osteoporosis either!
