Question/Comment:

Dr changed me from Diovan which I had taken for over 10yrse a nd put me on Diovan HCT. I had no problem with urine output. Now seems urine more concentrated and not as much. Opinion please.

iGuard Answer/Reply:

The difference between Diovan and Diovan HCT is the ingredient hydrochlorothiazide. Diovan contains valsartan and Diovan HCT contains valsartan plus hydrochlorothiazide. Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic and helps to lower blood pressure by pulling excess fluid out of the body. This action should increase urine output. If your urine output is decreasing and becoming more concentrated, there could be a different underlying cause. It is important to make an appointment with your physician as soon as possible and explain this change in your urine output and how you are feeling.

Question/Comment:

my husband takes DIOVAN HCT 160MG/12.5 MG NOW THE PROBLEM IS ; he has a cold can he take herbal tea...it hasslippery elm and other types of herbs...can he or should he take it. We need help with this, the doctor who prescribed it is not his orignal doctor...it was a specialist he had seen for his heart.

thanks.

iGuard Answer/Reply:

Slippery elm and other herbs have not been evaluated by the FDA for safety and effectiveness. Slippery elm can interact with many medications, and may affect the absorption of your husband's regular medications, which could affect his blood pressure control. It would be best to avoid using tea with this type of herbal in it. Decaffeinated peppermint or lemon tea would be a better choice and could still help to loosen up some of his congestion because of the steam of the tea.

Question/Comment:

Diovan HCT has worked well for me in lowering my blood pressure I was taking diovan hct 320/12.5 for 1yr, when I went to the doctor this week my bp was 112/70. I told her when i take it at home it will sometimes be 99/60. The doctor reduced my dosage to 160/12.5 and told me come back in 3 weeks. Hopefully I can remain at this dosage. Today's reading was 115/68 with the reduced dosage. Also my energy level has perked up.

Question/Comment:

I have been taking Diovan/HCT for about 2 years now. I do have the side effect of tiredness. But I have tried several other HBP meds which gave me unbearable side effects; One caused me to have vertigo issues. All in all, I have learned that taking care of myself with a healthy diet, a fitness routine, and ensuring I get a good nights rest makes everything work together for the better of me!

I have been taken Diovan/HCT for the last 3 yrs ,Sleep like a baby but, I have from time to time expreienceing some urinary problem but did not tell my Doctor because after a few days it goes a way. What do you think?

70 year old Female – Source: iGuard United States

iGuard Answer/Reply:

It is best for you to talk to your doctor about the urinary problems that you are having. There are many different types of urinary problems and several things that cause these problems. Your doctor can evaluate your symptoms, your medical history and your medication list to determine what is causing your urinary problems and the best way to treat your symptoms.

Question/Comment:

I have taken Diovan HCT for about 3 years now. I was on 160/ 12.5 it was the only one that lowered my blood pressure I had tried several different ones for months until Diovan. After a few years my blood pressure was too low so they cut the dose to 80 and removed the HCT. I swelled up like no tommorrow. My feet and ankles where painfully swullen when we where walking around Sturgis. (I didn't look very cool) They put me back on the HCT and it went back to normal. That is the only side effect of not taking them.
