Question/Comment:
I am a 78 year old male who has had elevated cholesterol for most of my adult life. I had been taking Zocor for ten years, but it had done very little to lower my cholesterol. Eight months ago my family Doctor put me on Crestor, just five MG. In three months time it had lowered my cholesterol by almost a hundred points.Three months ago he put me on Lyrica, and Calcium, because I now have Bells Palsy. At my last check my cholesterol is now 15 points higher, and my Glucose has risen to 116.Help

iGuard Answer/Reply:
Make sure you are watching your diet, even small changes can make a big difference. Eating oatmeal for breakfast can bring down cholesterol. Exercise can help decrease both cholesterol and glucose. Before starting any exercise program, you need to have approval from your physician. The important thing is to continue to monitor your values and keep all follow-up appointments with your physician. Keep the lines of communication open with your physician to continue to follow your levels.

Question/Comment:
Not really a comment, but more of a question:
I have asked my physician if the Crestor might be the cause of my extreme fatigue and muscle pain (going on for over a year now) . He said no. They (he and my oncologist) have run several tests to see what is going on, and all tests were negatives. I have been taking Crestor for some time. I have heard that it is dangerous to stop taking this medication cold turkey. What do I do now ? I am really concerned.

iGuard Answer/Reply:
Approximately 15% of iGuard patients taking Crestor reported muscle pain as a side effect while taking the medication. In addition approximately 1% of iGuard patients reported fatigue and drowsiness while taking Crestor. You should followup with your doctors and ask some further questions as to why they ruled out the crestor as a cause to your symtoms. In any case you should not make any therapy adjustments until you have followed up and been evaluated by your treating doctors. If you are being treated by an oncologist you may have other disease factors to consider that are causing you symptoms.

On Zocor I experienced truly terrible leg pain and severe cramping. Came off it for 3 months then started taking Crestor and have had no recurrence of either.

iGuard Answer/Reply:
If you are currently experiencing internal bleeding, it is important to make an appointment with your physician to find the cause of the bleeding before adding a stool softener to help with the constipation, Your physician should first determine if the bleeding is truly internal, caused by hemorrhoids, or caused by something more serious.
