iGuard Answer/Reply:

Capitrol is not typically used for high blood pressure. Perhaps you meant Captopril? Captopril belongs to a class of blood pressure medications called ACE-Inhibitors. For many patients, ACE-Inhibitors actually offer kidney protection, especially in patients with diabetes. There is specific kidney condition called severe renal artery stenosis, where ACE-Inhibitors can worsen kidney function - this condition is rare.

There are several class of medications available to treat high blood pressure, diuretics, beta blockers, ACE-Inhibitors, angiotension receptor blockers (ARBs). There are many options, including generics available within each class. It is best to talk to your doctor about your concerns with your current blood pressure medication and ask your doctor which type of blood pressure is best for you.
