So I took it last night,my first one at .5mg. I will be taking twice aweek. I was scared it was going to do something crazy to me but happy to say I'm ok. Did feel a bit dizzy at first but I'm ok now. Feel fine. Everyone should go to walmart to get this med. as it is the cheapest place I could find it. 343.00 at cvs 211.00 at walmart.

Question/Comment:

I am 27 years old and was diagnosed in March 2009 with Hyperprolactinemia. I am currently taking Cabergoline and my endcrinologist said that if I were to become pregnant that she would keep me on it for the first trimester and then take me off because you want your body to produce prolatin when you are pregnant. Then would be put back on after I was done breastfeeding. So far no side effects. It is much better than bromocriptine. I was very sick on that medication.

Question/Comment:

I am being treated for pituitary tumor, high blood pressure and most recently hurt my back . My medications are Cyclobenzaprine (which I dont tale as they say because i have a little one at home and the medication knnocks me out), Levothyroxin, Cabergoline, Docusate SOD. hydrocodone for the pain and Hyzaar for blood pressure. My prolactin levels were up and down, the migraines have intensified tremendously, the back pain is getting worse to where the pain is traveling down the left side only up to my neck. I stop taking Cabergoline, which was the first medication prescribed after I became pregnant in 2007. I should say I didnt find out I was pregnant until Feb of 07 and had my baby in July 07. I was diagnosed with the tumor in July 06 and before that High Blood Pressure in June 06. I understood that i couldnt become pregnant on the Cabergoline and had pregnancy test done before to be sure. One my questions was, will this have any effects on my baby since I was pregnant and on this medication? The other medications were prescribed after having my baby in July 07. I had surgery July 2008 to have 2 masses removed from my throat the was making it very difficult to swallow and lay down without feeling like I was choking. I dont have insurance and the medications have become very expensive. Are there any natural supplements I can take for the tumor and blood pressure. I was checked for diabetes and thankfully I do not have but I do have alot of the symptoms like swelling in feet and hands, dry mouth, and I have put on alot of wait. Hopefully I will have insurance to return to my endocronoligist and my o.b. doctor as well. The symptoms are increasing and new ones are showing as well. I am only 33 and a mother of 4. I would prefer to be off medications all together but if I must take them then I will. I just wanted to see if there were anything natural to take. Please let me know.

Answer/Reply:

You can become pregnant while taking cabergoline. They would like you to tell your doctor if you are pregnant for they believe the medication can be excreted into your baby when breast feeding and do not know if this will cause any harm. there are no natural supplements to replace cabergoline. try these sites for more info. http://www.hormone.org/Pituitary/

Question/Comment:

Wow, I am amazed at how many people have pituitary tumors. I was diagnosed with this about 15 years ago and my tumors keep coming back even though I have shrunk them. My levels go up and down and I am off the dostinex than 7 months later I'm back on it. Most doctors will admit that you can not get rid of them forever, that they will come and go. Even if you consider removing them from your pituitary they can still come back. So, dont let any doctor convince you to get them surgically removed because they still may come back and its a lot of risk having the surgery. I have learned to live with this even though dostinex is very expensive.

Answer/Reply:

I also have a pituitary tumor.I have not been able to afford Dostinex so I have not taken it for 2 years. My doctor knows and says its ok,I dont get my period and have no sex drive but no other side effects. In the past when I stop taking it I would get headaches and blurred vision, this time I havent had any.I think I am going to order Dostinex from Canada its a lot cheaper even though it seems crazy.

Answer/Reply:

Talk to your doctor about bromocriptine (hopefully spelling correctly). It was the only medicine for many years before dostinex and is likely cheaper than dostinex. The set back is that you have to take daily. There is also a generic for dostinex (caberliogne), which is what I take now. It is much cheaper and insurance covers it at the co pay rate. Also check if you can use Medco mail order, the three month supply is covered by one copay payment and mailed to you at once.

Diagnosed with tumor back in 1984 and have similar symptons except did not lose sex drive. Love not having that menstruation although it comes through evey now and then, but sometimes go a year without, but soon enough will be gone forever, lol.

Best wishes.

Question/Comment:

I am 45 year old male who was diagnosed with a pituatary tumor and high prolactin levels about three years ago. At that time, my endocrinologist prescribed .5 mg of Dostinex (Caberglione) to be taken once a week. Since that time, the tumor has literally disappeared and the prolactin levels have returned to normal. The dosage was reduced about six months ago to a half pill once a week. As far as I can tell, I have not suffered any side effects from this medication, but I try to maintain my health and take as little prescription medication as possible. It helps my wallet as well!
