Global Patient Feedback for Biaxin (Clarithromycin) ( Post a comment )
Question/Comment:
Twenty-four hours after starting generic Biaxin for pneumonia I began experiencing lower abdominal cramping which became frighteningly severe. The cramping seemed like gas pains, but far more painful. After rereading side effects, I stopped the medication and requested another antibiotic. The severe cramping lessened, but it took a week for the pain to completely go away. I have taken Biaxin before with no side effects, although I don't think it was generic. Has anyone experienced such a side effect before?

Question/Comment:
What are the specific interactions between Biaxin and Zocor? I have discontinued Zocor while recieving therapy with Biaxin, but am not clear on just what the interactions are.

iGuard Answer/Reply:
Biaxin and some other similar antibiotics can block an enzyme called CYP450 3A4. Blocking this enzyme can increase your Zocor levels quite significantly, increasing your risk of developing serious side effects.
