Question/Comment:

I have taken Avilide for about 3 years now with very minimal side effects. I was taking the 300/12.5 version - then I lost about 24 pounds during an unrelated health crisis last Spring. I have now reduced the dosage to 150/12.5 and it still controls my BP to about 120-125/60-70. Before Avalide I was on just about every BP med available with little effect. For me, Avalide has been great.

Question/Comment:

I was very happy with availde for more than 2 years with no side effects. About 6 weeks ago I started to feel some back twinges and pain to my thighs that got so bad that I have to get up an hour before my usual time to take ibuprophin to dull the pain so that I am able to walk! My thighs hurt in the from in all kinds of ways and in every spot. sometimes the inside, sometimes just above the knee, sometimes the outside near the hip. Sometimes I feel wear, sometimes my bones ache in my thigh, sometimes it feels like my knees can't support my weight. It continued to get worse almost every day until I stopped taking Avalide 3 days ago. Nothing has improved since then, but I don't get the sense that it is getting worse. I pray that if it is an Avalide side effect, that there is no permanent damage.

Question/Comment:

Last year before I even knew I had hypertension, I was experiencing headaches almost daily, which lasted throughout the day and even were present when I woke. My doctor put me on a combination of Avalide and Atenolol. Before I started the treatment I had a bp of 160/120 on the high side and a low side of 140/105 on average. Since I have been on this treatment the past year, I'm down to 115/95 on the high side to a low side of 97/68. Very happy now as headaches are rare and haven't had a migraine since being on this combo. Side effects are slight and well worth the positive effects of these drugs.

Question/Comment:

I apparently have a difficult case of high blood pressure to treat. I am taking Avilide AND Ramipril each day at near their maximum doses. Even with the combination of these medications, my blood pressure varies from good (125/75) occastionally to pre-hypertensive (140/85) usually. Occasioanaly I see an alarming 155/95, even with the meds. I have tried, but can not correlate the blood pressure reading to how stressed I feel, how much salt I consume, diet...or anything??? The only side effects are slight dizziness - I do not seem to be able to do Yoga poses, for example. I do suffer from occasional but not severe anxiety, which may be complicating this issue. I work out at a gym most days which helps a lot. Any relevant thoughts or experiences you might offer would be most appreciated.

Answer/Reply:

I too am on Avilide. My blood pressure continued to be high (higher than yours) for several years, but then dropped to 110 to 120. Much salt will run it up. Shortly after I retired is when it dropped and was steady.

Question/Comment:

I've taken Avalide for several years it has been the only medication that would take my blood pressure down. I've really never had any side effects from it. I agree, you have to take it fast or it starts to dissove in your mouth and it tastes nasty. My insurance tried to change my perscription because of the cost but I can't take any thing else, I tried a lot before we found Avalide. Recently my hormones have been in the mist of change and for first time it wasn't keeping my blood pressure down so my Dr added another type of blood pressure pill and it makes me dizzy and my pressure still isn't down like it was before. I've started excersing and drinking more water I hope that will help me drop my blood pressure and the second pill. The thing I would really like is "Not to have to take any pill at all for anything."

Answer/Reply:

I've Taken Avalide for 10 years. This is the only blood pressure medication that controls my blood pressure. I have had only intermittent side effect of tiching. I have been able to maintain my blood pressure with exercise and diet. This is the only drug I can tolerate. My physician tried multiple drugs prior to Avalide working for me. Being a registered nurse, I am happy that I have not had to increase my blood pressure medication in over ten years. My yearly physical and lab results have been fine.
