Question/Comment:

I was taking one full dose of aspirin which is coated, but I heard too much is a bad thing so I ordered the 81mg and now I am taking one pill in the morning and one in the after with my drugs and the Vitamins, but my doc said I should not only take the lower dose, I thought it was for my heart, it was for the previous blood clot I had, but to me, no expert, that taking one twice a day and I know if I took too much aspirin would result in the doc giving me more RX. I know I am very overweight, I hate the word Obese, a medical fave, so I am doing as told, but want to have a safe tummy, my tummy would bother me if I took it without the coating since this was the case in the past with only one pill. I would love to have it edited so I can write the amount of Aspirin and how often. My doc thinks you must take it all in the morning and I don't agree, and I didn't get MD and yet I have to be watch the health too.

Question/Comment:

im taking lisinopril 20mg and an 81 mg enteric asperin, both at tha same time, ive gotten my blood pressure taken several times with different machines and even at the local fire station , and my pressure is up , i started taking the asperin on my own without contacting my doctor, should i stop with the asperin???/

45 year old Male

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

Aspirin can potentially interact with lisinopril and may decrease your body's sensitivity to lisinopril - which could potentially increasing your blood pressure. It would be best to make an appointment with your physician to discuss the addition of the aspirin to your medication regimen and whether or not your lisinopril dose needs to be adjusted accordingly.

Question/Comment:

I take a baby aspirin daily 81mg and also 150 mg of zoloft. What is the risk of these two drugs tog/

55 year old Male

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

Taking aspirin and Zoloft together increases your risk of bleeding problems. Many patients use these two medications together without any problems. You are currently taking the lowest dose of aspirin daily which helps to lower your risk of bleeding problems. With that said, you should be extra watchful for excessive bleeding or bruising and immediately report any signs of bleeding to your physician, including pain, swelling, headache, dizziness, weakness, prolonged bleeding from cuts, nosebleeds, bleeding of gums from brushing, red or brown urine, or red or black stools.

Question/Comment:

I am diabetic and take Lantus injections once a day along with Glyburide 5mg. - 1 morning and 1 before supper. My doctor told me years ago to take a coated aspirin 81mg. once a day, but when I do after a few days I begin to have pain in my legs and feet. Being diabetic I don't have much feeling in my feet and legs, but still have the pain it comes on sudden and strong for a few minutes. When I discontinue the aspirin the sudden pain goes away. Does anyone have similar experiences? My Doctor has no comments . . . I guess he thinks it's all in my head?

67 year old Male

iGuard.org Answer/Reply:

Pain in the legs and feet is not a commonly reported side effect directly related to taking aspirin. It is a good idea to continue to talk with your physician if the pain persists or worsens.

Answer/Reply:

thats to be expected from doctors
when IT was discovered I had neuropathy in my legs, abd couldnt attribute it to diabetes, he called it auto-immune and of course rx neurotin and lyrica whch both have enuff side erffects besides dont help the condition
i had a sten placed in one of my main arteries and was geven a life sentence of plavix and *!MG BABY ASPIRIN. after 3 years when my blood turned to water i was finally taken off the plavix a slighjt cut would bl;eed for hours so the reason im writing to you is ---I always thought the pain in my legs which has gone to my thighs, i assumed it ewass the neuropathy, never thinking it coul.d be the 81 aspirin.-----so i will give it a try and STOP THE ASPIRIN AND SEE IF THE PAIN GOES AWAY1 I WILL LET YOU KNOW THE RESULTS NEXT WEEK

Answer/Reply:

I don't know if your pain is from Aspirin or not, but my doctor tried me on Platal (not sure of spelling) , but it is about the same as Plavix and is suppose to help clean up the veins and improve circulation. I had problems with it also and had to stop taking it. My doctor was mad because I had stopped it without telling him. But, It's my body and who knows best as to what hurts and what doesn't?

Answer/Reply:

I am a 57 year old male. 4.5 years ago I had stints put into my heart. I was placed on Plavix and 1 81MG aspirin. After a year and with no symptoms, I got the doctor to take me off the Plavix and I stopped taking the 81MG Aspirin. 6 months after quitting Plavix, I had Sudden Death Arithmia (not sure of spelling) and the paramedics used the paddles to get my heart running again. I now have a pacemaker/defibrillator and I am back on ther Plavix 75 MG and 2 81MG aspiring along with Metoprolol tartate 25MG and Diovan HCT. I would recommend following the doctors on staying on the medication. Had the EMT's not been at my house I most likely would have died. The doc told my wife that had she tried to drive me to the hospital I would not have made it. Bottom line, take the drugs and learn to work through the side effects.

GET ANOTHER M.D. I AM 82 GAVE UP GILBHIDE TAKE PLAVIX AND LOWER ASPIRIN I ALSO SHOOT LANTUS [5 UNITS AT LUNCH AND 28 UNITS AT PM]. OF CORSE AT MY AGE I ALSO TAKE A LOAD OF OTHER MEDS ASIDE FROM DIABETES THE ONLY OTHER PROBLEMS ARE DUE TO HEART AND PROSTATE BUT THEY GO WITH THE TERRITORY.

Answer/Reply:

It is unlikely that the 81 mg aspirin is causing your pain. Stopping the aspirin is your choice but will probably leave you more susceptible to thrombotic complications (clots forming in your arteries and especially stent blockage). I would always advise my patients to plan on long term aspirin therapy. I myself have been taking it for 30 years as a preventative measure (this is NOT generally recommended).

I am a Type I Diabetic of 37 years. You probably need to do some brisk walking on a consistent basis. The aspirin is not what your feeling it is diminished bloodflow, which the aspirin is HELPING!Walk through the fatigue, eventually the legs will say thanks! Concentrate on a lifestyle changeWalk for consistency not marathon distances, that may come in time!Don't stop the aspirin, its thinning your blood helping it to flow more freely,AND keeping it from clotting, you need that to avoid a Stroke!I had one!37 years as a Diabetic is not luck!I'm 44.Age 7-44.Take the baby aspirin before bedtime. Please walk briskly,Or at least bikeride,Use the gym if need be,Ride for 15 min daily work up to 30-60 min. This is sound advice Sir.Best wishes

Please get another opinion. I have a relative who had the same problem and ended up getting two toes amputated last August. She said the pain would almost be like a burning sensation. Please get another opinion from another doctor and be more concerned about you than whether or not you are offending the doctor.

I went to my DR and told him my toes hurt so bad and it felt like a chain saw was cutting my toes off, You would not beleive the pain. The Dr.'s nurse asked me what he said. I told her he really did not say anything or order any test. The nurse told me, please do not tell him but I will tell you what to try. She said to take Vitamin B Complex & folate 400mg. and it has been 15 years and no more burning toes.
Good luck to all and thank God for NURSES, that care.

I am on an insulin pump with Novolog, also take an 81 mg aspirin per day. For the last 6-7 years I have gotten frequent leg, ankle, calf, cramps that are extremely painful and unrequested. I have tried playing with my meds but don't find a relationship between the aspirin and the pain. Bottom line, I dunno.

Answer/Reply:

I am an 80 yr old female, and on 10 mg Amlopidine/Norvasc, 81mg Asprin, 10mg Lisinopril, and 900mg of Gabapantine/Neurontin, I also take 50/500mg of Hydrocodone/Vicodin. I have been on these medications since my back and stent surgeries (1998/2009. I have neuropathy in my legs, and suffer pain, but I control most of it with my mind, and medication. At our ages, from 50 to 100, it is expected to have these sufferings. Remember that JESUS suffered more that we did, and he didn't complain. I know I live with pain every day, but I offer my pain to God and Jesus, and live thru the day. Please try to do the same. Also if you are not happy with your Doctor, it's about time to look for another. I have found 2 in my life that I have been satisfied.

My husband started with a Pacemaker, and had a heart attack and went on to a Pacemaker/Defillabrator, had 5 by-pass surgeries, half his colon removed because of cancer, and died at age 77. He procrastinated about his medicine, but took it because I was after him all the time. May he rest in peace.
