Answer/Reply from iGuard:
You should always talk to your doctor before stopping any medication, but especially for medication like sertraline. When discontinuing treatment, you should work with your doctor to gradually reduce the dose of sertraline over time.
Most side effects associated with discontinuing sertraline can be avoided by gradually reducing the dose - but you should look out for side effects associated with stopping treatment - which include dizziness, burning, prickling, itching, or tingling of the skin, confusion, headache, tiredness or inability to sleep, and mood changes such as anxiety or irritability, or agitation. Be sure to contact your doctor if any concerning side effects occur - as this may mean you need to reduce your dose at a slower rate.

Question/Comment:
My 18yr old son has been taking Zoloft since Feb. this year for sleep and mood issues. It seemed to help at first but after 3 months he was becoming unpredictable. His doctor up his dosage to 100mg. It seemed to help but the past few weeks he has changed. His behavior seem to be very negative., he is agitated talks fast, snaps at people, very impatient. He is also taking Zyrtec d for allergies. Could there be a connection, and if so , what can we do?

Answer/Reply from iGuard:
For medications like Zoloft, it is a good idea to follow up with your doctor whenever you notice changes in behavior - it is a delicate balance to find the dose that works best but causes the fewest side effects.
Zyrtec and Zoloft may interact with each other - they both have affects on the central nervous system and may cause additive changes to mental alertness and performance - some patients also see increased drowsiness or fatigue. Zyrtec should have less side effects as compared to a more sedating antihistamine like diphenhydramine (Benadryl), but you still might want to talk to you doctor about whether or not your son should continue taking Zyrtec.

Answer/Reply:
I take both meds for the same condition. i am disabled with severe social anxiety disorder, panic and depression. I would advise that you take the zoloft everyday without missing a dose. I have found that taking zoloft before bed works the best. now for the xanax i only take that as needed for the attacks i experience. or if i am going into a situation that may trigger an attack. If you monitor the usuage of the xanax with the zoloft it works great for me. but i would seriously hold the xanaxes for need to use purposes. hope that helps.
