Question/Comment:
I started taking Wellbutrin, and about 18 days after starting to take it, it caused a skin reaction.
It was very itchy and raised swelling of the skin all over the body including the head. The Dr said to immediately stop taking Wellbutrin. A day after I stopped taking Wellbutrin the skin rash subsided.
Then the Pharmacist said that sometimes you can take the same medication and it might not have the same side effect, appon wich the Dr dissagreed. About six months later I started to take Wellbutrin again successfully without any side affects, and am on it now for 3,5 months now.

Question/Comment:
As far as the side effect that states "weight gain" I have always heard it helps with weight loss. Is this not true, and if not can you explain why.
Thanks

Answer/Reply from iGuard:
In the Wellbutrin XL prescribing information, both weight loss and increased appetite have been reported. Compared to other anti depressant medications, Wellbutrin is known to have a low risk of weight gain and sexual side effects.

Question/Comment:
I am very satisfied with this product Wellbutrin. I take 150mg, once a day, usually in the mornings. I do not have alot of these side effects. I guess you have to try different brands of depressiants before you find the one that works for you, everyone is different. "I have tried many". I have noticed that if I miss a dose for a few days it changes my mood and I feel very poorly. I have not taken the name brand only the Bupropion and it works great for me so I will leave WELL enough alone. My doctor told me it takes at least 30 days before you know if it is working for you.

Question/Comment:
I thought that the generic brand was a good as the REAL meds. Can someone explain the difference and why so many people have seen significant changes when they are put on the generic, and not for the better?

Answer/Reply:
My Dr. explained this to me when my insurance company made me take a generic form instead of the Proventil inhaler I had used in the past. i'm offering an intelligent guess here...
When you take any med your body becomes used to that specific chemical make up of the drug. Then you then have to take the generic, the slightly different chemical make up of the drug is not recognized by your body.
This does not happen to everyone, but imagine how scary of a situation it created when having an asthma attack and the "rescue" inhaler doesn't work.
Doc told me if I had started out on the generic, it likely would have been accepted by and worked for my body. He then had to fight w/ the insurance company to make them cover the name brand. Another thing doc told me was "it is your body, you know what is going on inside of you, don't let anyone try to convince you that your are not feeling__(insert problem)___, when you know you are."
Words to live by! BUT, when I started taking the generic Wellbutrin, I had no problem what so ever. Go figure.

Answer/Reply:
The generic medication may be the same as Wellbutrin but the time release capsule is not. The patent for the Wellbutrin capsule has not expired, and the generic substitue does not release the medication gradually as the Wellbutrin does. Instead, there is a surge of medication into the body followed by a lack of or shortage of medication thereafter. Question/Comment:
I was tapered off of Fluoxetine on to Bupropion and I've been taking 300 mg of Bupropion XL for about 6 weeks now. I have a constant feeling of dizziness and frequent headaches. I have woken up in the morning and almost fell over because I couldn't keep my balance. I got out of the shower once and went to flip my head over to put the towel on it and when I stood up I felt like I was going to black out. I had to grab hold of the sink. I find that I also feel like I will black out when I am playing sports. I often have to stop and take a breather so I don't pass out cold in the middle of the court. When I lie down for bed, I often have muscle spasms that I never had before. I feel like my appetite has returned at full force so I have naturally put on some weight. On a better note, Bupropion has given me my energy and libido back. It does not effect my sleep the way it does to others.

Sounds like you are on too high of a dose... if your doctor prescribed you for 300 mgs right off the bat, then they are the batty ones... you should slow increase this med. I was on 100 mgs of this, and I was supposed to move my dosage up, and it being too expensive for me out of pocket (after insurance paid their part) i couldnt take it anymore, and I wish i could... it was doing a world of good for me!!!

Answer/Reply:
You are too young to have side effects like the ones you describe. I agree, your dosage is too high. I had similar results on the 300 mgs and suggest you go back down to 150 mgs. Perhaps your symptoms won't be as severe.
