Question/Comment:

I have been switched to Tegretol due to the cost of Topomax and insurance coverage changes. I was paying $100 a month copay to fill the Topomax, and that was going to go up. Now, I pay $4 for the Tegretol.
I am experiencing severe nausea, ataxia, and dizziness with this change in medications. I am told that it will only be for a week or two, until my system gets used to the med. But, I am having issues with driving and moving about my house as I feel off balance and unsteady. When driving, I feel that things are rushing at me and that I am driving much faster than I am.
The nausea and vomiting are bothersome as well.

Anyone else have these issues with the starting of the med, and if so , how long did this last?

Question/Comment:

Do not drink while on this medicine, and get your blood checked regularly. This drug works, so make sure you have the right amount of it (which is why you should take the blood tests) and note any side effects, even if you think it's not from the medicine, it might be! I took Topamax, but I wasn't eating at all, so I was switched to Tegretol, and am over all happy with it.

Question/Comment:

I take carbamezepine and nortryptiline for migraines. I've had migraines for over 30 yrs, and have tried many differant drugs. I find something that works untill it no longer works, then move on to others. So far I like these two drugs with no side effects, but already had to up the dose on nortrytoline. Is there anything else that can help migraines without taking so much medications. I've already on two differant occasions had to get a demerol shot.

Question/Comment:

I've been on carbatrol now for about 7 weeks and since I've been on it for bipolar with manic depression i have leveled out and am doing great. Only problem is i just found out that it can cause weight gain after my doctor assured me that it wouldn't! I have lost 40lbs since i've been on it thank god. then again im on so much other meds that it has interactions thats it scary. Even worse is i had to argue with my pharmacist about being able to use it for bipolar disorder. He said it was for seizures only!
